We take a look at some video and notes on five players from the Ireton and #2 St. Johns game on Tuesday.
Bishop Ireton
Austin Dean LHP / 1B / Bishop Ireton, VA / 2025The Virginia Tech commit came on in relief for Ireton. The 6-foot-8, 210-pound left hander has an XL frame. Good body control for a sophomore with his size and frame. We first saw Dean last summer at Summer State Games and he was impressive. Dean committed to the Hokies before we could get him to Lakepoint for Future Games. On Tuesday he was a fairly low effort 86-88 mph with the fastball in his two-plus innings of relief. It is control over command and the control got scattered in his third inning on the mound, but understandably so. Dean had been under the weather for the previous two days and was scheduled to start had it not been for him being sick. The slider varied in shape, with some loose short shape and then a flashed a few mid 70's sliders that had depth and got some swings and misses. The secondary was in the back seat last year with the fastball and projection being the driving piece, but the slider has gotten better and expect this arm to continue to make strides.

Owen Hull SS / 3B / Bishop Ireton , VA / 2023This is one of my first times seeing Hull in game action. 6-foot-4, 200-pound frame. Proportional strength and large frame. Hull brings some physical tools to the middle of the field and is probably more of an offense first player. Square stance at the plate, hands relaxed, simple load and stride, and stays on line. Has plenty of hand and bat speed through the zone. Above average runner for size with enough arm to stay on the left side at George Mason. Really like this get for George Mason and still has ceiling left to his game.

Jonathan Underly C / OF / Bishop Ireton High School, VA / 2024Compact 5-foot-10 frame. Slightly open stance, toe tap stride, and lands on line. Hands load to separation and are set high. Slight pause in the hands before triggering the swing. Level path through the zone and good bat to ball skills. Gets a bit narrow and upright at finish. Offense first profile, above average runner, and average arm strength behind the plate. Has some versatility with being athletic enough to contribute in the outfield.

St. John's
Clayton Armah SS / RHP / St. John's College, VA / 2025Long limbed, thin 6-foot-4 frame with plenty of room to fill and add strength. Medium length to the arm circle, high three-quarter arm slot, and some arm speed through release. Pretty normal effort to the delivery and lands slightly closed. The Auburn commit was 83-85 early with a few 86's in the first. The velo faded just a touch in the fourth and fifth where he stayed in the 82-84 mph range. The fastball tended to fade back over the middle when he worked to the glove side versus right handed hitters. When he tried to pitch in on right handers he was able to get under the hands with that run. Showed what appeared to be two breaking balls on the day. A curveball that had a bigger break at 67-69 and tended to back up. The slider showed some shorter shape at 72-73 with occasional depth. Armah is a strike thrower and efficient in the zone. The secondary are average offerings and lacked finishing traits during this outing, but he can throw them consistently for strikes and the majority of high school hitters will get themselves out on spin, regardless of quality. Effort and physical makeup have some starter profile, but will need to add to secondary in the long run.

Hayden Kalisz RHP / RHP / St. John's College, VA / 2024Very short work for the uncommitted junior. Some late effort and intent to the delivery. Medium length to the arm swing and works from a three-quarter arm slot. Mostly fastballs at 84-86 mph and was pretty quick and efficient in his one inning of relief. Induced two weak groundballs and then got a strikeout to end the seventh.
