VA/DC Quick Hits: Class 5A Region B Semifinals

In the first game of the day at Glen Allen High School the Glen Allen Jaguars took on the Douglass Freeman Mavericks. Glen Allen got out to an early lead in the first inning when Lucas Bauer notched himself an RBI single to put the Jaguars up 1-0. Drew Morris came up in the bottom of the 4th for Glen Allen and extended the lead to 2-0 after his single to left that drove in a run. VCU commit Ethan Brooks had a solid day at the plate for the Jaguars going 3-4 with a double. 2022 Jaden Kinsler took the mound for Glen Allen and threw four scoreless innings and struck out six while only allowing four hits in his five innings of work for the Jaguars. In the top of the fifth inning Freeman would score 2 on an error to tie the game up late. Jackson Beale was on the bump for Freeman and struck out five in his five and a third innings for the Mavericks. Later in the bottom of the sixth Drew Morris would come up to bat with runners on and send a flyball to the outfield scoring 1 on a SAC fly to put the Jaguars up 3-2. In the same inning Ethan Hudson would come up for Glen Allen and launch a double to the right center fence plating 2 and extending the Jaguars lead to 5-2. Then in the Top of the seventh inning Alex Heid would close it out for the Jaguars with a strikeout to send Glen Allen to the Region B Championship game.

In the second game of the Class 5A Region B semifinals the Mills Godwin Eagles went up against the Midlothian Trojans in a very dramatic semifinal game. Midlothian would score in the top of the first as William & Mary commit Carter Lovasz crosses the plate on a wild pitch. Later in first Lynchburg commit Ethan Smith would come around to score on an Andrew Jones single to right center to put the Trojans up 2-0 in the top half of the first. In the bottom of the first Chance Muir would score on an RBI single from Ashur Caraher who would come around to score on a passed ball later in the inning. Godwin would manage to put up another run in the first on a fielders choice where Matthew Cornwell collected the RBI and put the Eagles up 3-2. Godwin would strike again the the bottom of the third after Luke Calveric comes up with the bases loaded and dumps a single into right field scoring 2 extending the Godwin lead to 5-2 after the third. Midlothian would scratch one across in the fourth on an error that plated Chase Chambers. In the top of the sixth Midlothian would tie the game at 5 after back to back bases loaded walks and then take the lead after Cole Feldman gets the job done with a SAC fly scoring one and putting the Trojans up 6-5. However, the lead wouldn't last for long as in the bottom half of the sixth the Eagles would plate two after a fielders choice and an error on the same play to put Mills Godwin up 7-6. Michael Hagin would slam the door shut with a scoreless seventh inning to send the Mills Godwin Eagles to the Class 5A Region B championship game.
