Outlook
After a youth movement in 2017, the Gators look primed and ready to make a run this spring with one of the top offense's in the state that should give opposing pitchers headaches from top to bottom. That lineup will be paced by senior JT Innskeep (VMI), who will once again lead the offense while showing his versatility on the diamond and on the mound for the Gators. Inskeep and Ryland Brown (pictured, right) bring together two of the most feared power presences in the Gator lineup as the two had impressive 2018 seasons. Both hit over .370 with a combined 48 RBI and 28 extra base hits, including nine homeruns. Anthony Morton also returns after hitting over .400 last season in 64 AB's and also added 26 RBI on the year which tied for the team lead. 2020 SS Nic Britt returns as well to pace the top of the order and look for the talented shortstop to have a nice season once again and build off his nice 2018 campaign hitting over .300. Look for an increased role from 2019 Josh Stevens (CNU) and see a nice senior season. 2019 Gavin Younce looks to build off his junior season and look for him to have a solid season at the plate while continueing to be one of the top defensive backstops in the area. Look for talented 2021's James McGrady and Austin Younce to build off nice first years and grow in their sophomore campaign. New face 2021 Ethan Ott, a transfer, could be a huge asset as the season progresses with his power hitting ability, strength, and potential that should only make the heart of the order for the Gators extremely tough. All in all its a very talented group on offense and one that could easily be considered as one of the toughest in the state.
For all the depth on the offensive end, it is the mound that looks to be the biggest question mark for the Gators this season as depth and experience are on the smaller end. Inskeep is the top arm returning and will be one of the top inning-eaters yet again this season after a nice 2019 with over 40 IP and 50+strikeouts, with a 3.02 ERA. Look for Morton to see an expanded role on the mound after throwing over 20 innings last season. Those two are the most innings returning this season, but the Gators do have some exciting young prospects in the freshmen class who should see some innings and excite this season. Keep an eye out for 2022 LHP Baley Matela who saw some time as an eighth grader and more than likely will see an expanded role in the 2019 spring. Also LHP/1B Gavin Whitehurst, who should see plenty of innings on the mound and also provide another hitting option as well. These two youngsters are both very talented and could be nice pieces to the staff this spring.
The talent of Greenbrier gets our nod for No. 17 in the Preseason Power25.
