Today we are releasing our sixth update to the Virginia/DC Power 25. We have three teams moving into the rankings and some minor movement in the middle.

St. Johns remains in the top spot and are coming off of one of the most dominant seasons in recent memory. One hiccup on the resume with the loss to Paul VI in the WCAC game two semifinal, but otherwise unscathed. The Cadets won the WCAC Championship in convincing fashion, sweeping Gonzaga in the finals.

The next eight teams remain in the same spots, but with regional and state playoffs looming, there are lots of potential shakeups in the next week or so.

We do have three new teams moving into the rankings this week and we would like to highlight  those teams.

Abingdon checks in at #22 this week. After starting the season inside the Power 25, the Falcons had a tough two week stretch at the beginning of April. Abingdon lost four out of six games during that span, all of which were to high caliber opponents. Since that time, Abingdon has won fourteen straight, including two wins over John Battle and most recently a playoff victory over Magna Vista.

Coming in at #23 is James Wood. The Colonels have lost three games this season, but all three have been to quality programs, two of which came over a month ago. While they have some quality wins, JW has been off for two weeks and have a tough test versus a surging Heritage (Leesburg) team for a trip to the state tournament.

Making their first appearance of 2023 is #25 Chatham. The Cavaliers have two early season losses, one to the defending state champion Appomattox Raiders and the other to a strong Tunstall team. Chatham has won thirteen straight, including two wins over the aforementioned Raiders and Tunstall Trojans. Chatham has a tough playoff test versus Alleghany, who had not lost in 2023 until recently. Chatham has a quality arm at the top, as well as some depth in the lineup, and that makes them a serious contender in VHSL 2A.
