Today we are releasing our fifth update to the Virginia/DC Power 25. We have four new teams moving into the rankings, as well as two new faces inside the Top 10.
St. John's remains at #1 and we have discussed their very strong season at length. The Cadets now sit at 24-0-1 with their only "blemish" being a 1-1 tie with Maryland #1 Archbishop Spalding.
#11 St. Albans had a strong win over Madison earlier this week, but then a little bump in the road versus Landon on Thursday.
We have four new teams in the Power 25 this week. Grassfield started the year at #12, but fell out after two early losses to Cape Henry and Hickory. The Grizzlies do not have any "bad losses" and have been on a torrid pace as of late, scoring sixty-three runs in their last seven games, all of which they have won.
#23 James River (Midlothian) enters the rankings after winning their last six games. The Rapids last lost in a 2-0 game to Hanahan (SC), but the Rapids took two out of three from the South Carolina power.
#24 Menchville is one of the few remaining undefeated teams in the state. The Monarchs do not really have any high quality wins, but they have beaten the teams that they should have. They will have two tough tests this week, as they play Gloucester on Tuesday and Thursday. Gloucester sits at 11-1 entering the week and would be the toughest test that Menchville will have until playoff time.
#25 Cave Spring has blown out some tough western opponents and they have won some tight games with teams that might not be quite to their ability level. It will be interesting to see how the Knights can close the season, as they have a few tough tests left with William Byrd, Salem (Roanoke), and Christiansburg.
