In early August, Prep Baseball Report VA/DC updated and expanded its Class of 2019 Rankings, going from about 30 players to 100 while also moving players that were ranked based on what we have seen at our events and on the road scouting all spring and summer. Now that the rankings have been released, we take a closer look at them in today's spotlight:

Scouting Report

2.11.17:  Pearson is 6-6 with an athletic projectable frame, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a long, free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders are uphill and closed as he strides to a square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball was 76-78 with good downward plane. Curveball had late sharp 11/5 break and was 65-68 with some armspeed. Change-up was 65-69 with some armspeed and fade. At the plate hits from an open stance, short stride on line, smooth load back, good rhythm. Hips show some explosion and good balance to swing. Short level swing with a good approach working the middle of the field, exit velocity was 86. At first, gets behind ball and fields with a wide base, average hands. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity was 77.

Scouting Report

6.27.17:  Burner is 5-10 with an athletic frame, hits from the left side from a slightly open athletic stance. Leg kick stride and smooth load back, good rhythm, explosive lower half and good balance to swing. Quick to ball, level swing to middle of field, works uphill when pulling, extension. Line drive swing, uses whole field, good approach, exit velocity was 79. In the outfield, good footwork, gets behind ball, fields with soft hands while playing through. Quick, clean exchange, throws from high three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, outfield velocity was 78. On the mound, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, normal effort. Shoulders closed, lands on line with an athletic finish and a bit of a fall off. Fastball was 72-74, touching 75, with some sink to it. Change-up was 67-68 with some armspeed and fading action. Slider was 64-67 with gradual 2/8 break.

5.22.16:  Burner has an athletic 5-9 frame. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Long arm action that generates velocity with some effort. Shoulders are level and closed as he strides on line to a square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball had heavy run, sitting 72-74. Sweeping slider with gradual break that he slows his arm down a bit, 64-67. Sinking change-up that was 65 that he slowed his arm a bit on. Burner hits from a balanced and athletic stance from the left side. He has a smooth load back and short stride. A long bat path, Burke is a rhythm hitter with a rocking preload motion. He has a strong stocky build and exit velocity of 76. In the outfield, Burner showed a long and low three quarter arm action and a velocity of 78. His shuffle footwork is short and the transfer smooth.

4.16.16:  Burner has an athletic frame and hits from the left side from an open, athletic stance. He has a leg kick stride with smooth load back. He has a short swing with above average bat speed and showed a good approach, using the entire field and consistently barreling the ball throughout the day.
