Upperman 2016 RHP Winston Cannon Turning in Dominant Season

It’s hard to imagine a more dominant season than Winston Cannon has had for Upperman High School. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound right-hander has been nearly unhittable in running his record to 7-0 on the season.

Cannon attended our Preseason All-State Showcase in February. Here is a look at his scouting report from that event.

2/7/15 - The 6 foot 3, 185-pound RHP has an ideal pitcher’s frame that projects well at the next level,  arm is loose and quick, works through a high-3/4 arm slot, also throws a fastball from low-3/4 to sidearm slot, easy effort in delivery, throws a heavy fastball with late arm-side run and sink at 85-86 mph that topped at 87 from the low-3/4 slot, shows a very good curveball that showed  late and sharp 11/5 action and ranged from 70-72 mph,  showed improved feel for 74-75 mph changeup from previous event, big upside and should continue to develop into high-level prospect.

Cannon’s stats this spring look like something out of a video game. In 43.1 innings of work, he has allowed just 16 hits and one earned run which equates to a miniscule 0.16 ERA. With 89 strikeouts, Cannon has averaged slightly more than two per inning, and equally as impressive are just the nine walks he has issued. His seven wins include five complete game shutouts.

Cannon’s contributions don’t end on the mound. He is currently hitting .437 with 11 doubles, one home run, and 24 RBI in leading Upperman to a 21-3 record.

Upperman begins District 8-AA Tournament play tomorrow. With Cannon on the mound, the Bees appear primed for a deep postseason run.
