Updated Illinois Power 25 Team Rankings

This is the fourth installment of the Illinois Power 25 Team Rankings. High school baseball is now in full swing across the state and we once again have a new team at the top. Mount Carmel sits atop the Power 25 Rankings for the first time this season after a perfect 3-0 week and a 4-2 victory over No. 3 St. Laurence. Below is a breakdown of the movement in this week’s Power 25:

Climbing
+ Brother Rice (17-2) – Now No. 2, they jumped two spots since last week. The Crusaders have now won 16 straight games and were 4-0 this week. On Saturday they defeated Loyola Academy 4-2.
+ St. Rita (16-2) – No. 3, went 3-0 on the week including an extra inning victory over No. 8 Providence on Saturday.
+ St. Charles North (14-2) – Jumped three spots up to No. 5. Went 5-0 on the week. Defeated Batavia 6-4, Bartlett 12-0 and took three games from Larkin.
+ Naperville Central (16-4) – A steady climber the past couple of weeks, jumped two more spots after going 5-0 on the week. Now No. 13, The Redhawks swept a three game series with Waubonsie.
+ St. Francis (17-1) – Went 5-0 on the week with an impressive 16-10 victory over Marmion. The Spartans scored double digit runs in every game last week. Now sit at No. 14.
+ Hinsdale South (19-2) – Another team that went a perfect 5-0 this week. The Hornets swept a three games series with Downers Grove South and two games against Willowbrook.
+ Lemont (11-4) – Went 3-1 on the week including a no-hitter in a 2-0 victory over Tinley Park.
Sinking
+ St. Laurence (14-4) – Dropped three spots after a 2-2 week. The Vikings lost to Andrean (IN) 9-5 and to No. 1 Mount Carmel 4-2 on Saturday.
+ Waterloo (12-4) – Went 1-1 on the week with a 16-6 loss to Belleville East.
+ Jacobs (12-5) – The week was not kind to former No. 1 Jacobs, going 1-4 on the week.
New to the Top 25
+ No. 17 Sacred Heart-Griffin (17-4) – A perfect 5-0 week including a convincing 12-2 victory over Quincy Notre Dame gets the Cyclones back into the Top 25 once again.
+ No. 19 Peoria Notre Dame (18-4) – Went 5-1 on the week and gets into the Power 25 for the first time. Split two games with Peoria Richwoods and swept a Saturday double header against Pekin.
+ No. 24 Moline (17-3) – The Maroons went 2-1 on the week. Quality wins throughout the year against Oak Forest, Normal Community and two against Quincy get Moline in the Power 25 for the first time in 2016.
