Updated & Expanded 2022 Alabama Rankings
August 31, 2021
As we continue to put a bow on the summer of 2021 and transition to the fall, it's time to reassess the Player Rankings for the Class of 2022 in the state of Alabama. As these players head into their final season of high school baseball, it's worth noting that there is some real talent scattered deep in this list. Many of these players have a real chance to be impact players once they step on campus this time next year, and some could even garner some discussion for the 2022 MLB Draft next summer.
It'll be interesting to see how this class continues to shape out over the course of the next year, but let's go back and take a look at how this class stacks up after a successful summer of 2021.
NO CHANGE AT THE TOP
RHP/SS Landon Russell (Russell County, 2022) remains at the No. 1 spot in this update, mostly for the spring campaign that he turned in for the Warriors as a top-of-the-rotation arm and a middle-of-the-order bat. The 6-1, 190-pound two-way threat really made some strides on the mound thanks to some of the best athletic ability in the class. The fastball ranged anywhere from 89-93 mph in most of our looks this spring and paired that with a sharp slider with late, hard bite in the upper-70's. An Auburn recruit, Russell certainly could see more velocity come in the future as he continues to improve and add strength to an athletic frame.
