Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Zach Trusk
August 27, 2012
Today’s Player Spotlight is on unsigned Senior Zach Trusk. Trusk is a 5-foot-9, 180-pound catcher/infielder hailing from Plainfield North High School. Last year Trusk was an important cog in the Tiger lineup, leading them to a 30-plus win season. After the top seeded Tigers were upset last year in the first semifinal round by Naperville Central, Trusk has been intently working on his game and hopes to lead Plainfield North to another 30 win season.
The multi-positional Trusk impresses with his defensive abilities behind the plate. Defensively, he shows quick, clean footwork behind the plate, staying low throughout and a quick transfer. There is very little wasted movement when Trusk is throwing out runners. This clean delivery resulted in a 1.98 pop time earlier this summer. His arm is accurate and consistent; his ball flight stays on line through the bag and has been clocked at 75 mph.
Offensively, Trusk hits from a wide, crouched stance. He has an economical approach to the baseball with a level, line drive swing with good whip through the zone. His balanced approach allows him the ability to hit the ball to all fields. Trusk’s strong lower half and easy swing projects well and will develop more pop as he matures.
Look for Trusk to be a standout player for the Tigers this year, as he hopes to take Plainfield North deeper into the playoffs this spring.
