Matthew Wilburn, RHP, Garrard County HS, 2015

At 6-foot-2, 218-pounds, Wilburn has a large frame with a strong lower half, and he showed a slight uptick in velocity at the PBR Kentucky Unsigned Senior Showcase on December 14.

Wilburn’s fastball sat mostly 83-85 mph, touching 86 on one occasion during his bullpen session, and while his fastball was mostly straight on this occasion (it showed better movement at previous event), he showed good secondary stuff to compliment the fastball.

Wilburn showed good command of his 69-72 mph curveball that displayed tight spin and sharp 11/5 action.  He also showed a very good changeup that we didn’t see at the Unsigned Senior Games in August at 76-78 mph.  He throws the changeup with good arm speed, and it shows very good sink and fade.  Though he appeared to be hesitant in throwing it during game action in August, the changeup has the potential to be a very good pitch at the next level as he gains more confidence in throwing it.

Look for Wilburn, and RHP Seth Murphy to provide a solid one-two punch on the mound for Garrard County this spring.
