Unsigned Senior Spotlight: C Tony Piccirilli
August 31, 2012
By Chris Fuller
Today we spotlight unsigned senior Tony Piccirilli. Piccirilli is a 6-foot, 195-pound catcher from Trinity HS in Louisville.
With a sturdy frame and solid arm strength, Piccirilli stacks up well defensively. He has been clocked at 77 mph from the crouch with a pop time of 2.02. In addition, he shows good receiving skills and blocks the ball well.
Offensively, Piccirilli makes good contact and has a short path to the ball on inner half pitches. He has some pop in his bat, as we saw him drive a ball over the left-center field fence at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington in a wood bat game.
Look for Piccirilli to provide senior leadership from the catcher position and some pop in the middle of the batting order for the Shamrocks in 2013.
