Brian Ricker, LHP, Rocky Point HS, NY (2015)
Ricker stands 6-foot-2, 185-pounds with a great pitchers frame. On the mound he uses a smooth delivery, balance over rubber, shoulders slightly down, throws from a high-3/4 slot. Fastball sat 75-78 mph with arm side run, slight action. Curveball has early 1/7 shape, sat 59-64 with fastball hand speed. Changeup sat 63-66 mph, some slowing of the arm, late down action. He has a closed landing with a recoiled upright landing. Needs to finish with more extension.
Analysis:
At 6-foot-2, 185-pounds and being left-handed there's things to like about Ricker. Velocity needs a boost to get consistent outs at the next-level, but his fastball has natural movement and is accurate. A serious arm-strengthening program this winter and his fastball, curveball and stock will all reap the benefits. Great kid with the desire to be a high-level pitcher. Excited to see him this spring.
