On Sunday, December 14 a total of 37 unsigned seniors convened at Legends Sports Academy for the PBR Kentucky Winter Unsigned Senior Showcase.  The group produced some very impressive performances.

The following is a look at the group of pitchers that participated at the event. This is pitcher analysis only.  Those pitchers that also participated as a position player at the event had their position evaluations featured in a previous article.

Patrick McBride, RHP, Hancock County HS, 2015
6-foot-5, 215-pound prospect has committed to John A Logan Junior College since the event.  Shows big upside and recent increase in velocity, arm has gotten significantly quicker, long arm action, high-3/4 slot, fastball sat mostly 86-88 mph mostly straight, curveball showed sharp and late 11/5 action at 72-76 mph, good arm action on 75-78 mph changeup that is a solid pitch with arm-side run and sink, solid secondary offerings to complement the fastball.

Ricky West, RHP/OF, Jeffersontown HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 202-pound prospect, uses long arm action through a high-3/4 slot, uses strong lower half well, arm shows quickness, some effort in delivery, fastball mostly straight at 86-87 mph, touched 90 on last pitch of bullpen session, 70-74 mph curveball shows sharp 11/5 action, shows feel for 73-76 mph changeup, also flashed a 72-75 mph knuckleball that showed late movement, velocity was the best he has shown to date, one of the top arms left on the board in 2015 class.

Aaron McGeorge, RHP/SS/OF, Henry Clay HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 155-pound prospect uses short arm action through ¾ arm slot, quick arm, good tempo in delivery, fastball showed good arm-side run at 83-86 mph touching 87, shows good command of 71-74 mph curveball with sharp 11/5 action, good feel for 75-76 mph changeup that displays good arm-side run and sink, also throws a 78-81 mph cutter that showed late action through the zone and a 70-71 mph knuckleball with late movement, another top arm left on the board in 2015 class.

Matthew Wilburn, RHP, Garrard County HS, 2015
6-foot-2, 218-pound prospect with strong lower half, uses long arm action through high-3/4 slot, fastball showed slight arm-side run at 82-85 mph touching 86 on one occasion, left a few curveballs up early in his bullpen but when he found release point it showed sharp 11/5 action at 67-72 mph, showed one of the best changeups of the event at 76-79 mph with good sink and fade, good arm action on the changeup with good feel for locating at the bottom of the strike zone.  Wilburn is a solid arm left on the board in the 2015 class.

Sean Lawrence, RHP/SS, Simon Kenton HS, 2015
5-foot-11, 200-pound prospect, works through a ¾ to high-3/4 arm slot, regular effort in delivery with good rhythm, fastball displayed some arm-side run at 83 mph, touched 85 on one occasion, curveball ranged between 72-76 mph with tight spin and sharp 11/5 action and is a very good pitch when located down in the zone, 78-79 mph changeup shows some arm-side run and sink, tended to bury the changeup but has potential to be a solid offering at the next level.

Brandon Wilson, LHP, Ballard HS, 2015
6-foot-3, 195-pound prospect, frame projects well, up tempo delivery, long arm action through high-3/4 slot, throws fastball for strikes, mostly straight at 81-82 mph, curveball shows 1/7 action at 68-69 mph, tended to bury curveball, showed some feel for 70-72 mph changeup thrown with near fastball arm speed, changeup mostly straight, good upside for this lefty with room to improve secondary pitches to be effective at the next level.

Scott Spurlock, 3B/RHP, St, Xavier HS, 2015
6-foot, 186-pound prospect, uses long arm action through ¾ slot, regular effort in delivery, throws slightly across body, shows good command of three pitch mix, fastball sat 78-80 mph with good arm-side run and sink, 67-70 mph curveball displays 10/4 action, showed one of the better changeups of the event at 73-76 mph with good arm-side run and sink located at the bottom of the strike zone, consistently pounds the strike zone with all pitches.

Josh Finerty, 3B/RHP, St. Xavier HS, 2015
6-foot-2, 200-pound prospect uses long arm action through a high-3/4 arm slot, good tempo in delivery, arm works with some quickness, throws fastball for strikes at 75-79 mph touching 80 (touched 82 at summer event), fastball shows some arm-side run, good command of 65-68 mph curveball with 12/6 action, shows some feel for 66-69 mph changeup that shows good sink and fade.

Jacob Thompson, RHP, Barren County HS, 2015
6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect with big frame, uses shorter arm action through a ¾ slot, tends to open front side early and land open, fastball sat 76-78 early in his bullpen but last two fastballs came in at 82 and 83 mph, throws a 68-70 mph curveball with short 11/5 action, tended to bury his 70-74 mph changeup, should continue to get better feel for the changeup as he throws it more, has potential for more velocity with improved lower half direction.

Logan Young, RHP, Lincoln County HS, 2015
6-foot-5, 185-pound prospect with long and lanky frame that projects well, uses long arm action through a high-3/4 arm slot, good rhythm in delivery with minimal effort, throws slightly across body at times, fastball sat 77-80 mph, showed some command of a 63-67 mph curveball that showed short 11/5 action, has a tendency to get around 68-70 mph changeup causing some cutting action, was able to work lower part of the strike zone with the changeup, has some upside with projectable frame

Dallas Kuebler, C/RHP, Jeffersontown HS, 2015
6-foot, 210-pound prospect with strong lower half, uses short arm action through an over the top arm slot, delivery requires some effort with some choppiness, struggled with command, fastball sat 80-82 mph touching 83 with some cutting action, 61-66 mph curveball shows some 12/6 action, also drops down and throws a sidearm curveball at 61-65 mph.

Brett Whaley, SS/RHP, Jeffersontown HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 170-pound sidearm pitcher who works from the stretch only, consistently throws strikes with a three-pitch mix, fastball sat 74-76 mph touching 77 with some arm-side run, 65-69 mph curveball showed lateral action early in his bullpen but later showed sharper 10/4 break, throws a 66-69 mph changeup that varied between cutting action and arm-side run, interesting prospect due to good command from sidearm slot.

Kyle Riesenberg, RHP/3B, Ballard HS, 2015
6-foot-4, 175-pound prospect with long and lean frame, submarine style pitcher who works from the stretch only, fastball shows late arm-side run and sink at 71-74 mph, touched 77 on one occasion, curveball showed mostly lateral action and tended to be up in the zone at 61-63 mph, did throw one curveball that showed sharper 10/4 break down in the zone, throws a 59-63 mph changeup with some deceptive sink and fade.

Alex Cornele, RHP, Madison HS (OH), 2015
6-foot, 180-pound prospect uses shorter arm action, high ¾ arm slot, regular effort in delivery and maintains direction with lower half, fastball showed occasional slight arm-side run at 76-79 mph touching 80 on one occasion, 69-71 mph curveball showed lateral action but sharper 11/5 action when he stayed on top of it, changeup was 74-75 mph and is mostly straight, changeup will be more effective with bigger velocity difference off fastball.

Travis Smiley, LHP, North Hardin HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 205-pound prospect uses shorter arm action through a high-3/4 arm slot, up tempo delivery and gets quick with lower half at times from the windup leaving pitches up in the zone, was able to work the bottom half of the zone consistently from the stretch, fastball sat 74-76 mph, mostly straight, showed good feel for 63-66 mph curveball with 1/7 action, throws a 66-69 mph cutter with some late lateral action through the zone, 70-72 mph changeup is thrown with good arm action and shows some arm-side run.

Nathan Davis, RHP, Boone County HS, 2015
6-foot, 170-pound prospect uses long arm action through a high-3/4 arm slot, deliberate delivery, regular effort, fastball shows occasional cutting action at 75-77 mph and tended to be up in the zone, 60-65 mph curveball shows short 11/5 action, throws the curveball for strikes, throws 65-69 mph changeup for strikes, tends to get around the changeup causing some cutting action to it, also flashed a 68-69 mph slider and 68 mph fork ball that has some late tumbling action.

Harrison Hoskins, RHP/3B, Scott County HS, 2015
5-foot-11, 160-pound prospect uses long arm action through a high-3/4 arm slot, lands square and repeats delivery well, regular effort, fastball sat 75-77 mph touching 78 with some arm-side run, showed the ability to throw curveball for strikes at 66-69 mph with 12/6 action and some depth, lacked command of 66-69 mph changeup that needs continued development.

Nic Caswell, 3B/RHP, Bullitt Central HS, 2015
5-foot-11, 185-pound prospect uses long arm action through a 3/4 slot, regular effort in delivery, arm shows some looseness, fastball sat 75-77 mph showing some slight arm-side run with occasional sink, arm tends to drag on 63-66 mph curveball and had trouble locating the strike zone with it, showed better feel for 67-70 mph changeup, gets around the changeup causing some cutting action, 68-69 mph cutter shows some late movement.

Steven Watson, RHP, Whitley County HS, 2015
5-foot-9, 190-pound prospect uses long arm action through a high-3/4 arm slot, shows some rhythm in delivery, fastball sat 75-77 mph touching 78, tends to slow arm on 58-62 mph curveball that shows gradual 11/5 action, throws a 60-63 mph slider with better arm speed, slows arm on 59-63 mph changeup that is mostly straight, locates changeup down in the zone well.

Lance Baker, RHP/OF, North Hardin HS, 2015
5-foot-8, 155-pound prospect uses long arm action thorough high-3/4 arm slot, wraps some on back side, fastball shows slight arm-side run at 74-77 mph, throws a 12/6 curveball with gradual break at 63-66 mph, throws changeup with good arm action at 69-71 mph that displays occasional cutting action and tends to be down in the zone.

Brett Cohoon, OF/RHP, Christian Academy of Louisville, 2015
5-foot-9, 165-pound prospect uses medium arm action, over the top arm slot, regular effort, keeps lower half online, fastball sat 73-75 mph touching 77 on one occasion with some cutting action, shows good command of 64-66 mph with 12/6 action and some depth, shows ability to locate 68-69 mph changeup in the strike zone thrown with fastball arm speed.

Mark Walters, LHP/OF, Walton Verona HS, 2015
5-foot-7, 138-pound prospect uses short arm action, over the top arm slot, regular effort in delivery, lands square, fastball sat 64-67 mph touching 68 and is straight, shows a 61-63 mph curveball with occasional slight 12/6 action, shows good feel for 61-63 mph changeup that he is able to throw consistently for strikes.
