2016 RHP Drew Young committed to University of Central Arkansas on Sunday. Young had a strong campaign for the Bentonville Tigers last spring. He was an integral part of pitching staff that lead them to the 7A State Title. He joins the 2016 pitchers as NCAA Division I commitments with 2016 RHP Kasey Ford committing to Kansas State and 2016 RHP Carter Brown committing to University of Arkansas Little Rock. After a strong spring Young had a busy summer competing in the PBR Arkansas Top Prospects Games and playing for the Arkansas Prospects. Below is his write up from the Top Prospects Games.
6.1.15 Top Prospects Games
Young is a 6-foot-1 205-pound RHP with a physical build and large frame. He pounds the bottom half of the strike zone with his 86-89 mph with slight run. He flashes a curveball with 11/5 break and late action 70-73 mph, but uses his fastball command for most of his success. Overall Young has good arm strength and repeatable delivery, he is an advanced high school pitcher who should get better overtime
6.1.15 Top Prospects Games
Young is a 6-foot-2 205 pound outfielder with a large frame and a physical build. He ran 7.23 in the 60. Defensively he worked through the baseball with an elongated exchange, with a strong accurate arm throwing 87 mph from the outfield. Offensively he is a big physical hitter that produces exit velocity up 92 mph. He generates power more with strength than bat speed. He has an elongated swing with an uphill bat path. He is a rotational hitter, with pull power.
