November 14, 2011
One of the top Class of 2012 catchers is now off the board, as University City’s Kevin Phillips (right) has committed to East Tennessee State University. A starter since his freshman year, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound backstop has put together an impressive varsity career.
As a freshman, Phillips led the Lions with a .410 average, 25 hits, six doubles, three triples, two home runs, and 18 RBI. The following year, he hit .359 with a .518 OBP and 19 RBI.
In his junior campaign this past spring, the right-handed hitter paced the Lions’ offense with a .500 batting average, .611 OBP, 35 runs scored, eight doubles, seven home runs, and 26 RBI.
