Underclass Trials: Pitcher Analysis

Today we conclude the player analysis from the Underclass Trials that took place on June 24th at The Rock in Franklin, WI. We finish our event coverage with the pitcher analysis.
2018 RHP Sean O'Brien takes the top spot among the pitchers. O'Brien features a three pitch mix for strikes with his fastball sitting 80-81 mph.
6-foot-3, 200-pound right-hander Jack Anderson made a name for himself at the event working 81-83 mph with his fastball.

Top Prospects
1. Sean O’Brien, RHP/3B, Marquette University, 2018
6-foot-0, 175-pound, athletic build, good projectability, right-handed hitter. On the mound displayed a tall-and-fall delivery, short arm action, high ¾ arm slot, landing square on line, athletic finish. Straight fastball sat 80-81 mph. Curveball showed 11/5 shape, thrown for strikes, 63-65 mph. Changeup sat 72-74 mph. Hit from a tall, balanced set up, loads back, short stride, good balance. Fast bat speed, uphill bat path, pull-side approach, 87 mph exit velocity. Defensively showed soft hands, fluid footwork, over-the-top arm slot, with accuracy, 78 mph across the infield. Ran a 7.57 60-time.
2. Jack Anderson, RHP, Pulaski, 2017
6-foot-5, 200-pound athletic and lanky right-handed pitcher. Throws from high ¾, average arm speed, loose action, east effort, and tall-fall type. Showed some rhythm, level shoulders, square landing, and athletic finish. Fastball was 81-83 mph with some run, curveball sat 66-68 mph with 11/5 shape, and changeup was 73-75 mph with arm-side-run. Threw all 3 pitches for strikes. Anderson projects very well on the mound and is a pitcher to follow in the 2017 class.
3. Chas Sagedahl, LHP/1B, Prairie du Chien, 2017
6-foot-2, 165-pound athletic and lanky two-way player. On the mound the left-hander throws from high ¾, loose arm action, easy effort, smooth rhythm, good tempo, square landing, and athletic finish. Fastball was 75-76 mph and touched 77 with run, curveball was 64-66 mph with 1/7 shape, and sharp action, and changeup was 67-70 mph with some sink. Threw all 3 pitches for strikes. Defensively has short loose arm action from high ¾, with average strength, average hands, clean exchange and fluid footwork. Threw 73 across infield. Offensively hits from right side with tall and open setup, loads back, long stride, average balance, average bat speed, and takes uphill path. Exit velo 84 mph. Ran 7.71 60. Sagedahl projects well on the mound and is a pitcher to follow in the 2017 class.
4. Charlie Peterson, RHP, Waukesha South, 2017
6-foot-3, 182-pound lanky right-hander. Throws from high ¾, with quick arm speed, long loose arm action, regular effort, tall-fall type, some rhythm, and has athletic finish. Fastball was 77-80 mph with run, hard action, and arm-side-run, curveball was 64-66 mph with 11/5 shape, and changeup was 72-75 mph. Peterson projects well on the mound and is a pitcher to follow in the 2017 class.
5. Logan Grunenwald, SS/RHP, Wausau West, 2017
6-foot-3, 180-pound, projectable body, right-handed hitter. Hits from a wide set up, short stride, fair balance. Above-average bat speed, long bat path, pull-side approach, 85 mph exit velocity. Defensively showed above-average hands, athletic fielding position, long arm action, carry on throws, 81 mph across the infield. Ran a 7.34 60-time. On the mound displayed a tall-and-fall delivery, ¾ arm slot, landing square. Fastball showed hard arm-side-run, 79-80 mph, touched 81 mph. Curveball had 11/5 shape, 66-68 mph. Changeup had good arm speed, some cut, 71-73 mph.
6. Cooper Kelly, OF/RHP, Edgewood, 2017
5-foot-10, 155-pound lanky and athletic two-way player. Offensively hits from the right side with a tall and closed setup, no load, short stride, and good balance. Showed some quick bat speed, line drive gap-to-gap type, and fluid rhythm. Exit velo 79 mph. Defensively the right hander has loose arm action, high ¾, some carry on ball, fluid footwork, plays thru, and athletic in the field. Threw 81 mph from outfield. Ran 7.27 60. On the mound, the right hander throws from high ¾, quick arm speed, loose arm action, and easy effort. Athletic and smooth rhythm, and open square landing. Fastball was 78-79 mph and touched 80 mph with some run, curveball was 65-68 mph with 11/5 shape, slider was 71-72 mph with sweeping motion, and changeup was 71-73 mph with some fade.
7. Matthew Osterberg, LHP/1B, Coleman, 2017
6-foot, 150-pound lanky two-way player. On the mound throws from high ¾, quick arm speed, loose arm action, good balance point, easy effort, and tall-fall type. Showed smooth rhythm, in, line direction, square landing, and athletic finish. Fastball was 77-78 mph with some run, curveball was 64-66 mph with 11/5 shape, sweeping motion, sharp action, and thrown for strikes, and changeup sat 64-68 mph with sink. Threw all 3 pitches for strikes. Offensively hits from left side with tall and open setup, loads back, short stride, and good balance. Showed some quick bat speed, short and uphill path, and line drive gap-to-gap drive. Exit velo 74 mph. Defensively has short, loose arm action from ¾ slot, and some carry on ball. Showed average hands and is athletic in the field. Threw 70 mph across infield. Ran 7.78 60. Osterberg projects very well on the mound and is a pitcher to follow in the 2017 class.
8. Jack McNeil, 1B/RHP, Edgewood, 2018
6-foot-5, 230-pound, big body, good projectability, two-way player. On the mound displayed a tall-and-fall delivery, short arm action, high ¾ slot, landing square on line, athletic finish. Fastball thrown for strikes, sat 77-79 mph. Sweeping curveball sat 61-66 mph. Changeup 71-74. Right-handed hitter, slightly closed set up, short stride, above-average balance. Good bat speed, level bat path, pull-side approach, 85 mph exit velocity. Defensively had above-average hands, fluid footwork, short arm action, some accuracy, 74 mph across the infield. Ran a 8.57 60-time.

Mitchell Cole, LHP, New Berlin Eisenhower, 2018
5-foot-9, 165-pound big left hander. On the mound throws from over-the-top, average arm speed, short arm action, and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in line direction, square landing and athletic finish. Fastball was 66-67 mph and touched 68, curveball was 61-62 mph with 1/7 shape, and changeup was 61-64 mph with some fade.
Clayton Esch, RHP, Union Grove, 2017
6-foot-2, 245-pound right-handed pitcher. Throws from high ¾, short arm action, regular effort, tall-fall type, some rhythm, and uphill shoulders. Fastball was 73-76 mph with run, curveball sat 61-63 mph, and changeup was 61-63 mph with some sink.
Devin Fish, RHP/OF, New Berlin, 2018
5-foot-11, 175-pound, average build, two-way player. On the mound showed a tall and fall delivery, short arm action, over-the-top arm slot, landing closed, working across his body. Fastball sat 77-78 mph. Curveball showed 12/6 shape, 61-63 mph. Changeup showed some sink, sat 67-68 mph. Defensively showed some ability to play through the ball. Loose arm action, high ¾ slot, 78 from the outfield. Hit from an open stance, loads back, above-average balance. Short, uphill bat path, pull-side approach, 75 mph exit velocity. Ran an 8.38 60-time.
Daniel Hahn, SS/RHP, Cudahy, 2018
5-foot-5, 125-pound two-way player. Defensively the right hander has short arm action from high ¾, average strength, clean exchange and average hands. Threw 73 mph across infield. Offensively, switch hitter hits from balanced and crouch setup, loads back, short stride, and average balance. Takes short level path and has average bat speed. Exit velo 74 mph. Ran 7.69 60. On the mound, throws from high ¾, long loose arm action, regular effort, some rhythm and in line direction. Fastball was 68-70 mph and touched 71 mph with some cut, curveball sat 62-65 mph with sweeping action, and changeup was 66-67 mph with arm-side-run.
Jack Kraemer, OF/RHP, Oconomowoc, 2017
5-foot-7, 145-pound two-way player. Defensively the right hander has short arm action from over-the-top, and average strength. Showed average hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange and plays thru. Threw 76 mph from outfield. Offensively hits from right side with an open setup, loads back, short stride, and average balance. Showed average bat speed and short path. Exit velo 76 mph. Ran 7.57 60. On the mound, throws from high ¾, average arm speed, long arm action, regular effort, tall-fall type, some rhythm, and closed square landing. Fastball was 72-73 mph and touched 74 with some run, curveball was 61-64 mph, slider was 63-66 mph with sweeping motion, and changeup was 62-65 mph with some sink.
Jake Michalski, SS/RHP, Oak Creek, 2018
6-foot, 175-pound two-way player. Offensively hits from right side, balanced setup, short toe tap, average bat speed, and takes short level path. Exit velo 74 mph. Defensively has short arm action from high ¾, clean exchange, and usually plays thru. Threw 69 mph across the infield. On the mound, the right-hander throws from high ¾, average arm speed, long action, showed regular effort, some rhythm, and square landing. Fastball was 69-70 mph and touched 71 with some run, curveball was 61-63 mph with 11/5 shape and gradual action, and changeup was 63-66 mph with some cut.
Derek Polczynski, RHP, Arrowhead, 2018
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed pitcher. Throws from over-the-top with short arm action, regular effort, square landing, and tall-fall type. Fastball was 73-74 mph and touched 75 with some run, curveball was 64-67 mph, and changeup was 65-68 mph.
Nick Rockweiler, OF/1B/LHP, Elkhorn, 2019
5-foot-9, 135-pound two-way player. Defensively the left hander has long loose arm action, from high ¾, average strength, average hands, and showed good footwork at first base. Threw 63 mph across infield and 68 mph from outfield. Offensively hits from left side with balanced setup, smooth back load, short stride, takes long level path, and good balance. Exit velo 74 mph. Ran 7.66 60.
Carl Valk, OF/LHP, Appleton North, 2017
5-foot-10, 140-pound athletic two-way player. Defensively the lefty has loose arm action from high ¾, and average strength. Showed soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, plays thru and is athletic in the field. Showed natural instincts. Threw 77 mph from outfield. Offensively the switch hitter showed a balanced setup, short stride, and good balance. Quick bat speed lefty and average righty. Takes uphill path and fluid rhythm. Exit velo 82 mph left and 83 mph right. Ran 7.48 60. On the mound the lefty throws from high ¾, long loose and wrapping arm action, easy effort, and tall-fall type. Showed some rhythm, in line direction, and athletic finish. Fastball was 71-74 mph, curveball was 67-69 mph with 1/7 shape, and changeup was 69-71 mph with some sink.
Jacob Wokatsch, RHP/OF, Wausau West, 2017
6-foot-1, 185-pound lanky two-way player. On the mound the right-hander throws from over-the-top, average arm speed, long action, tall-fall type, some rhythm, uphill shoulders, and square landing. Fastball sat 75-77 mph and touched 78, curveball was 64-66 mph, and changeup was 67-70 mph with some cut. Defensively throws from long over-the-top a lot with some carry on ball, average hands, and plays thru. Threw 79 mph from outfield. Offensively hits from right side with balanced setup, drops load, leg lift, average balance, average bat speed, and level uphill path. Exit velo 77 mph. Ran 7.78 60.
