Scouting Report
Team: Prairie Baseball Academy - Junior Varsity
PBR Events Attended: Southern Alberta Talent ID 2017, Calgary College Prospect Showcase 2018
Background: Skylar Braun is a catcher based out of Lethbridge where he will play on the PBA Junior Varsity team in the spring. Braun has a very good catchers body, tall and lean with plenty of room to fill out. Braun shows good poise behind the plate and is a grinder who fights to keep everything in the dirt in front of him. Braun shows solid receiving skills, and good footwork on his throws down to second. Moving forward Braun needs to focus on building strength to really show off his already quite polished skillset.
Need to Know: Braun attended the Southern Alberta Open ID event in Lethbridge late fall 2017 where his best pop time was 2.19, improving that to 1.94 this past January in Calgary. Braun gets rid of the ball quickly behind the plate, but his ball still lacks the carry needed to truly be a run stopping threat, he topped out at 75 mph from the crouch. Braun possesses a very good approach at the plate, and will again continue to develop on the hitting side as he gets stronger. Brauns max exit velocity was 85 mph, with a level swing and a body frame to build off of that will improve quickly. Braun is the type of catcher who is vocal with his pitching staff and infielders. He will be a team leader behind the plate moving forward.
