Underclass Spotlight: Class of 2015 Jake Otto (Parkway Central)

Jake Otto, MIF/RHP, Parkway West HS, Class of 2015:
Jake Otto is a  5-foot-11, 155-pound two way player who showed talent in the field, at the plate, and on the mound.

Perhaps the most impressive part of Otto’s game was his ability to hit the ball to the opposite field consistently. Otto has a balanced stance and time after time, let the ball get deep in the zone and drove it to the right side. He keeps his hands inside the ball and brings them through the zone quickly, at times with an inside out swing. He also showed ability to pull the ball from time to time on the inside pitch.

At shortstop, Otto shows to be a sure handed fielder with soft hands and a clean transfer. He showed good range to his glove hand side and produced accurate throws (68-mph). With incorporating a bit more lower half into his throws, he should see an increase in velocity.

On the mound, Otto comes from a ¾ arm slot and has whippy arm action and a deceptive delivery. He hides the ball well while delivering his fastball that topped at 74-mph. His 11-to-5 breaking ball had big two-plane break and stayed down in the zone. He also showed a 61-64 mph change up with sink action. Like with his fielding, if he uses more of his lower half, he should see a spike in velocity on his pitches.
