At 5-foot-10, 150-pounds, Adrian Calez won’t be the biggest prospect on the field.

But, in baseball, how much does that really matter?

For Calez, he doesn’t need to look far for examples of talented, undersized prospects that have moved on and excelled at the next level.

His older brothers, Adam and David, both played college baseball at Cincinnati and Walsh respectively.

Now, the talented, left-handed pitcher from Lorain is putting himself on the map.

Using a smooth, deceptive delivery and easy, loose arm action, Calez recently displayed an 81-84 mph with run. He complements his fastball with a 68-69 mph curveball and a 73-75 mph changeup.

Looking ahead to preparations for the spring and summer, he notes, “I would like to gain more velocity on my fastball, and gain more control of my change-up. Also, to bulk up a little bit.”

Right now, he is working out twice a week with his high school team and twice a week with his summer team, the North Coast Vipers.

With the recruiting process moving into full swing, Calez doesn’t have a favorite, but he is hearing from several different schools in the Midwest.

“I started hearing things towards the end of the summer. I've been in contact with Kent State, Central Michigan, Lake Erie, Wright State, Shawnee State University.”

He goes on to say, “I have received letters from Ohio University, Louisville, Youngstown State, Wabash Valley, Manchester, Bellamarine, St Josephs College, Vincennes University and Mercyhurst.”

In June, Calez will be participating in the Top Prospect Games at Prasco Park, the top summer event for members of the Class of 2013.
