Let’s take a look at the statistical breakdown from this January’s Underclass Invitational Showcase.
Top Fastball Velocity
McHenry West’s Bobby Miller touched 90 mph on the mound, sitting 86-88 mph with late arm side run. 13 prospects threw 83 mph or better, several of which project to throw harder thanks to their athleticism and large frames.
Lockport’s Josh Baker touched 87 mph from a physical 6-foot-2, 210-frame.
Plainfield South teammates Konnor Ash and Austin Marozas both showed excellent velocity, with two distinct styles. Ash has an impressive three-pitch mix, highlighted by a 78 mph power changeup with sink, and creates excellent arm speed from a 5-foot-11, 150-pound frame. Marozas has been as high as 87 mph this winter, and touched 85 on Sunday with the makings of a 71 mph power slider all delivered from a 6-foot-5, 190-pound physical frame.
Lake Zurich’s Shane Nolan and Lincoln-Way East’s Jake Pomykalski also touched 85 mph from huge 6-foot-3 and 6-foot-4 frames respectively.

Top Exit Velocity
Bat speed was in abundance as the aforementioned Czerniejewski led the way with 95 mph. 90 was the magic number for Bobby Miller on Sunday, touching it both on the mound and with the bat. Marian Catholic’s Montreal Blade also touched 90 mph with his exit velocity.
Dunlap’s Charlie Mangieri and Mount Carmel’s Bobby Seymour both posted 88 mph exit velocity, are both physical behemoth’s at 6-foot-4, 225-pounds, and will be an unwelcome site in the batters box for high school pitchers over the next several years.
