2019 prospects:
Riley Cornelio, Pine Creek High School (Texas Christian University)
No. 1 CO, No. 19 overall 2019, 6-Foot-2, 160 pounds. Bats and throws right. Tall balanced stance. Hands start a little lower then last time we saw him. Generates good bat speed by swinging down to the ball, and has slightly uphill path. Good extension through finish. Good rotation on lower half. Gap to gap power. 89 mph exit velo off the tee. Ran a 7.2 60 time. Arm is electric at both short and on the mound. At short glove to hand separation works good. Tall lanky short stop with good range to both glove hand and back hand sides. 88 mph across diamond with accuracy. On mound Cornelio has athletic frame, and arm works great. In two innings struck out 6. Delivery is very simple and explodes to the mound. Very good leg drive. Fastball sat 87-88 and will easily increase with age. Could project to be mid 90's going into college especially since he's only 160 pounds. One of the top prospects in the country in the 2019 class.
Bryce Mathews, Chaparral High School (Arkansas)
No 2 CO, No. 30 overall 2019, 6-foot-5, 180-pounds. Bats left and throws right. Has a ton of power potential. The freshman brings a lot of power to the plate, and projects to be one of the best hitters in our state for the next 3 years. At the plate hits from a tall, slightly opened stance, short stride that closes down, and lets his hands to the work with a level swing through the zone. Gap to gap power. In the Outfield ranges well for his size. Throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. This past spring the big outfielder helped lead the Wolverines to the 5A District playoffs.
Parker Gregory, Pine Creek High School
No. 3 CO, No. 92 Overall 2019, 5-foot-11, 160 pound RHP has a nice loose arm from high 3/4 arm slot and repeatable delivery with a lot of projection. Fastball touched 85 mph at the Top Prospect Games with a solid 3-pitch mix. Curveball had nice late tilt at 69 mph, and change was same arm speed as fastball with fade at 72 mph. At the plate has a tall narrow stance, short stride, and quick hands through the hitting zone producing a 83 mph exit velo. From the OF threw 85 mph from right. Goes back on the ball well. Ran a 7.4 laser timed 60. Projects as a D-1 pitching prospect.
Mitchell Morales, Broomfield High School
No. 4 CO, No. 93 overall 2019, Morales has so much projectablity don't be surprised if by the time it's all over he is competing with Riley Cornelio with that top spot. 6-foot, 155 pounds, Morales has a lankly frame that you can see has multiple more inches to grow. Fastball was 83 mph but is on you quick. Batters couldn't do much against him. Arm is loose and easy. To see video from this weekend click here. At the plate stands tall, narrow stance, has backwards toe-tap stride, and has quick hands to the ball. Sprays the ball all over the field. Registered a 82 mph exit velocity. Could speed up actions in outfield, but has a strong arm at 82 mph. Ran a 7.30 60.
Junstin Boyd, Legend High School (Oregon State)
No. 5 CO, No. 94 overall, 5-foot-9, 140 pounds. Bats and throws right. Athletic looking prospect with lean frame. Has narrow slightly open tall stance. Hands start high and has slight leg kick. Hands move well to the ball. Gets good extension through zone and uses lower half well. Had 80 mph exit velocity off the tee. Right now is a line-drive gap hitter. Good bat speed for his age. Like his actions at SS. Gets in ready position and moves well to both sides. Has quick release and threw 75 mph across the diamond with accuracy. Ran a 7.60 60 time. Nice 2019 prospect to follow.
Sam Ireland, Mountain Vista High School
No. 6 CO, No. 208 overall 2019, 6-foot-1, 185 pounds. Bats and throws right. At the plate stands tall with a slight open stance that he closes down with a short stride. Strong kid. Swings down and through the ball with very good extension off a firm front side. All weekend generated gap to gap power, which included a monster 400 plus homerun to right center. At 1B has soft hands, good feet around the bag, and throws from a short high 3/4 arm-slot at 82 mph. On the mound he slightly crouches, and could add more velo with more leg drive towards plate, but still generated a fastball that sat 80-82 touching 84. Curve was 68-69 with late sharp break. Lands in-line then falls off towards 1B. Ran a 7.6 laser timed 60.
Derek Shaver, Grand Junction High School
No. 7 CO, No. 238 overall 2019, 6-foot-3, 178 pounds. Bats and throws right. Has a balanced athletic stance with gap to gap power. Swing is level through the zone with good lower rotation. Big shortstop with good range. Lower 80's arm across the diamond. On the mound is athletic, throws from over the top arm slot. Fastball sits lower 80's.
Jett Hoggatt, Rocky Mountain High School
No. 8 2019, 6-foot-1, 190-pound right hand hitting catcher/OF who ran a 7.20 60. At the plate he hits from a slightly open stance with a high leg kick for timing. Swing plane is level through the zone with good extension out front. 89 MPH exit velocity produced several balls off the left center wall. In the outfield he is athletic and moves well on balls in the gap. He throws from an over the top motion and delivers an accurate 82 MPH ball to the bag. Behind the plate he is quiet and frames pitches well. He shows good actions on blocking the ball and quick feet to get in throwing position. Pop-times were 2.06-2.08 and arm velocity was 79 MPH.
Kian Manmano, Legend High School
No. 10 2019, 6-foot, 150 pounds. Bats and throws right. A lot of tools and a player that needs to be followed. On the mound gets very good extension to the plate with good leg drive. Square and in-line to the plate. Nice loose arm that hides ball well. Fastball was 79-81 but seems faster. Arm speed is same as fastball at 68-70 mph with 11/5 late depth. At the plate has a balanced athletic stance. Short stride, and loads back. Swing is short to the ball with good bat speed. Generated a 85 mph exit velo off a tee. Line drive power. On a triple he hit was 12.16 to 3rd. In the outfield had top arm velocity at event at 84 mph. Ran a 7 flat 60 time. Player to follow.
