Under the Radar, High Ceiling

Colby Smith
Desert Oasis’ Colby Smith has secretly been having a huge fall for the Dodger Elite Scout Team. He is a talented prospect that has been slightly overshadowed by the amount of big names on both the Dodgers as well as his high school team at Desert Oasis. As a junior, Smith held down the shortstop position for the eventual state champion Diamondbacks, hitting .343 with an on base percentage of .449 complimented by a .925 fielding percentage.
Smith made his name known this fall as one of the top performers on the Dodgers Elite Scout Team. Scout team coaches and players raved about Smith’s abilities at the plate and as well as in the field. The progression he has made during his career at Desert Oasis and his time with the Dodgers makes him an exciting player to track as the high school season is a short five months away.
He isn’t a guy who will jump out of the page at you as you read his data, but this kid can play. His game has very little fat, with his simple swing and smooth actions in the field there is very little “extra” going on which will translate when he starts seeing top arms like he did on the Dodgers Elite Scout Team. Smith should be creating quite a bit of buzz going into his senior season if he continues his positively trend.
