Under the Radar: 2018s

This week in the Under the Radar we turn our attention to 2018 graduates that have shown advanced ability, and performed well in game as we have seen them compete this spring. Read full reports below.

2018 Jakobi-Jackson, OF/LHP, Watson Chapel
Jackson is a 6-foot 180-pound outfielder left-handed pitcher with a wide frame and an athletic build. Offensively Jackson attacked the baseball with fast bat speed and a line drive swing with a high finish. He showed the ability to hit to all fields, including a double in the opposite field gap. Defensively he played through the baseball with fluid footwork and used an average exchange and threw the baseball accurately with carry. Overall Jackson is an advanced hitter, with solid defensive skills and solid athleticism.

On the mound Jackson command the strike zone with a fastball which worked 80-83 mph with late sink. He complimented his fastball with a curveball with 1/7 action and late break thrown 71-74 mph. He pitched out of the stretch and repeated his arm action and rhythm consistently. Overall Jackson is a solid pitcher with two pitches he can command for a strike.

2018 Kam’ron Mays-Hunt, OF, Bentonville HS
Mays-Hunt is a 5-foot-11 175-pound outfielder with an athletic frame and build. Defensively he played through the baseball with fluid footwork, a normal exchange and a quick arm from an H ¾ arm slot with carry and accuracy. Offensively he starts from an open stance, diving back into the plate, he uses a minimum load and stride combination. He attacked the baseball with a compact line drive swing. He showed the ability to bunt for hit in the game showing off his athleticism as he ran a 4.11 Home to 1st. Overall Mays-Hunt is an advanced athlete with a raw offensive game but has the tools to develop into a well-rounded player.

2018 Peydon Harlow, RHP, Harding Academy
Harlow is a 6-foot-2 180-pound right-hander with a large frame and physical build. His fastball worked 84-86 with tilt and life through the strike. He also threw a change up 72-73 mph and a sharp 11/5 slider that worked 75-78. Mechanically he uses a simple delivery with an easy rhythm and a consistent balance point, he finishes athletically towards home plate. He pitches from a ¾ arm slot with a quick arm and a slight stab in the back. Overall Harlow is an advanced athlete with a quick arm and feel for the slider.

2018 Alex Langley, RHP, Riverview HS
Langley 6-foot-4 200-pound right-hander with a large frame and an athletic build. He pitched 81-84 with late life through the strike zone he complimented the fastball with a curveball 71-74 mph with gradual break and located it sporadically. Langley used late hand separation and struggled to be on time on consistent basis. He has a quick loose arm working from H ¾ arm slot. Overall Langley is an intriguing prospect with his large frame with a quick arm with overall rawness. An added bonus to Langley is he is an advanced student with high test scores.

2018 Kade Stuart, RHP, Lonoke HS
Stuart is a 6-foot-1 160-pound right-hander with a large frame and an athletic build. He pitched off his fastball 81-84 mph on both sides of the plate consistently. He also located a curveball thrown 69-72 mph with 11/5 shape and gradual break. He mixed in a changeup 71-73 mph thrown with near fastball arm speed and arm side run. Mechanically Stuart used a simple repeated delivery with a distinct balance point and a tall finish. He uses a short quick arm action. Overall Stuart is a projectable right-hander with a feel to pitch, his velocity should increase as he adds strength.
