The PBR winter and preseason events have continued to uncover impressive, uncommitted 2019 talent. This week, In the Weeds at six players whose talent should allow them to play at some level, and could develop into an impact role in the future. Three of the players are infielders while the three others have a chance to be two-ways players. Connecticut, Rhode Island, Oklahoma, and Texas are represented.

Cameron Thompson OF / 1B / Owasso , OK / 2019

Just when you thought that there could not possibly be any more talent to squeeze out of Owasso High School in Oklahoma, another players makes a jump and looks like a future college player. Thompson, a physical, 6-foot-2, 205-pound potential two-way player at some level, has continued to progress and fill into his frame, and now looks like he could help out a program at the next level. Registering a 99 mph exit velocity off the tee, the strong right-hander has a powerful stroke. A bit stagnant early on without much pre-pitch setup, Thompson’s quick hands take over late, and drive the barrel through the zone on an uphill plane producing loud compact. Though the setup is not fluent, there is no denying the strength that he comes through the zone with, and given the athleticism that he shows off with his 6.91 60-yard dash, he may be able to make some adjustments in the future. Utilizing a short, strong arm on the bump, Thompson ran his fastball up to 85 mph in a recent PBR Oklahoma bullpen session, and paired the pitch with a knuckle-curve and splitter that both have a chance to develop into above average pitches at some level. Overall, Thompson has worked hard to develop his physical frame, and the jump that he has made at the plate and on the mound should entice a college coach at some level, especially given the upward trend that he continues to be on.
