Alberta Insider: Uncommitted Class of 2019 Spotlight - Willy Alexander Diaz Vasquez
Report
Summer Teams: Parkland Twins, Prairie Sticks
Background: Willy Alexander Diaz Vasquez has developed into one of the top prospects in the province. He has a very athletic frame that features a strong lower half and large upper body that work well in unison. He has the potential to be a true five tool player as he has shown the ability to run a 6.30 60-Yard Dash, has thrown low 90’s across the diamond, shows good pop in batting practice and in game and makes solid plays at both shortstop and the outfield. He has game changing speed and quickness and is a very intelligent baserunner which allows him to routinely turn singles into doubles. Moving from the Dominican Republic just over two years ago, he has started to adjust to Canada and his comfort level has been evidently increasing.
Need to know: Willy has been an exciting player to watch this spring and summer and is blossoming into a must see prospect for college coaches. With a very intriguing combination of speed and strength he is someone that can make an impact at the top of a college lineup. Willy has a quick trigger when stealing bases and does not hesitate to go when given the opportunity and is rarely thrown out. At the plate he is solid and swings for hard contact and does not get cheated very often. He looks to do damage in hitter and pitcher counts, but can still battle with two strikes. Keep an eye on this must watch player.
