Alberta Insider: Uncommitted Class of 2019 Spotlight - Haden Dow
Report
Summer Team: Edmonton Cardinals 18U, Prairie Sticks
Background: Haden Dow is a very exciting 2019 prospect in the province of Alberta. Currently he is ranked eighth overall and second at his position in the 2019 class. Listed at 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds he has a solid frame in place already but has more room to grow still. He has a very deliberate load with his lower half in the wind-up but changed his timing very well in the stretch causing hitters to be thrown off. He works very well out front with his fastball that sits in the low to mid 80’s with some natural cut that works well when going in to right handed hitters. Dow mixes in both a change-up and a slider that compliment his fastball nicely. The slider is still developing into a true out pitch but he has flashed the potential for a plus change-up. Dow has the ability to be a very solid starting pitcher at the next level as he fills up the strike zone and has a maturity on the mound beyond his years.
Need to know: Dow impressed in his outing with the Prairie Sticks in Denver this past month shutting down a very solid Slammers Cronican team out of Colorado that featured multiple division one commits for three shutout innings. Playing for Taylor Burns with the Edmonton Cardinals 18U team the rest of the summer he has been a guy they have counted on to start weekends off on the right foot routinely getting the ball in game one of the weekend. He has some mechanical inconsistencies to deal with from fastball to breaking ball but he clearly shows the ability to pitch and get outs against very good opponents. He will be an exciting arm to watch as he matures and progresses over the next year while working with the Prospects Academy as well as with the Edmonton Cardinals. If he continues to add size to his frame he can project to add more velocity as the stuff is there.
