Twelve Scout Day: 2022 Quick Hits
June 6, 2020
KATY T.X.- The second day of the Texas Twelve Scout Day featured an extremely talented and deep 2022 class. Several of the states top prospects and high-end uncommitted prospects. Here are some highlights from yesterdays action.
TOP PROSPECT ARMS
Wyatt Wiatek, RHP, Sinton, 2022
LSU commit, physical framed RHP was up to 88.0 mph on the day, averaging 86.4 mph. Predominantly pitched to his glove side with the fastball and breaking ball. In previous times seen, Wiatrek has shown two different variations of the breaking ball and today saw just the CB which averaged 72.9 mph with some depth.
.@LSUbaseball Recruit ‘22 RHP Wyatt Wiatrek (@WyattWiatrek). Worked 84-88 on the day with a curveball at 73 with some depth, plenty of more in there moving forward. High upside arm. @SHS_PirateBball | @TwelveBaseball pic.twitter.com/wzIoYrm20Q

Luke Steward, RHP, College Station, 2022
Long limbs, loose arm, projectable frame with plenty of room to add size. Steward was up to 86.0 mph in his first inning of work but settled in 81-84 mph later in the outing, averaging 82.6 mph. Stewards fastball was dominant to gloveside, and plays more like a true cutter with the horizontal break of -2.2 and average spin rate of 2422 RPM. Steward also threw one of the more impressive breaking balls on the day with sharp, late, depth, that got ugly swings averaging 74.5 mph, topping out at 76.3 mph with an average spin rate of 2822 RPM. Both the spin rate numbers on the fastball and breaking ball are very high and give you something to project off of.
2022 RHP Luke Steward will be one to watch moving forward.

Long, lanky, projectable frame. Loose arm up to 82-86 w/ natural late cut (SR 2400+). Really good when gloveside. CB 72-75 (2800) w/ sharp late action and present depth. High ceiling arm w/ plenty more in there. pic.twitter.com/i3x3Npf0df
Shane Sdao, LHP, Lake Creek, 2022
6-foot-1, 145-pounds, showed a quick athletic arm that had natural deception within the delivery and hid the ball well. Sdao showed plenty of upside on the mound pounding the zone from the left side with a sneaky fastball that jumped on hitters. The fastball topped out at 86.2 and averaged 83.2 mph with a spin rate of 2162 with and average IVB of 16.9 inches and an HB of -5.5 inches of break. The breaking ball was good not great in terms of sharpness of action but it played off the fastball really well and got some uncomfortable swings and takes. Sdao will be one to take notice of this coming summer.
Intriguing look at 2022 LHP Shane Sdao (@ShaneSdao).

Lean projectable frame with a long loose quick arm. FB 82-86 but jumps on you at the dish. Pairs it w/ a CB at 68 w/ depth that plays well off the FB. Another HIGH end arm on the day. @LakeCreekBall | @TwelveRecruits pic.twitter.com/slZe3VUGEr
Jax Traeger, RHP, Concordia Luthearn, 2022
6-foot-1, 190-pounds, some rigidness in the delivery but is able to sync it all up and pound the strike zone with the fastball. Fastball was up to 87.7 mph and averaged 85.8 on the day with an average spin rate of 2006. Traeger seemed to be working on a slider over the mini break and threw it a number of times in his short outing. The slider topped at 76.9 mph and averaged 75.9 mph with an average spin rate of 2076. The action of the slider seemed to be a bit different from pitch to pitch but would flash some that had late glove side action but not a ton of depth. Had previously seen him throw quality changeups but only a couple today.
.@PBR_Uncommitted ‘22 Jax Trager (@JaxTraeger; @TwelveRecruits) is a strong built RHP.
— PBR Texas (@PBR_Texas) June 5, 2020
FB sat 84-87 up to 88. SL at 75-77 with late glove side action some depth not a ton, but got a couple swings and misses on the day. Pitches to both sides of plate with confidence. pic.twitter.com/nK7SdiXbJS
Chase Davis, LHP, Montgomery, 2020
Texas A&M Recruit. Physical LHP with an over the top arm action and a short arm path, and some natural deception in the delivery, the ball looks like it comes out of his ear. The fastball on the day was 82-85 and paired it with a curveball at 72 mph. The breaking ball would at times pop up out of the hand but was able to throw it for strikes and for a chase pitch when needed.
.@AggieBaseball Recruit ‘22 LHP Chase Davis (@Chase_Davis_28; @TwelveRecruits).

Natural deception on the mound got some uncomfortable swings early, up to 85 with big CB at 72 to go with it. pic.twitter.com/xwb0oyvKVn
TOP PROSPECT POSITION PLAYERS
Connor Weigman, SS Brideland, 2022
Arguably the best player in the state in the 2022 class, is a naturally gifted athlete with a physical frame and strong lower half and still room to fill out more. Weigman has a calm presence in the box with some natural rhythm in the load with a simple, compact, powerful stroke. He drove the ball hard on a line to LF to start his day and followed it with a hard hit ball to the CF wall for a double. In the field he shows actions that say he can stay at SS at the next level and carries himself as a high end QB on the baseball field.
Quick look at one of the more physically gifted players in the 2022 class in @PBR_Uncommitted SS/OF Conner Weigman (@ConnerWeigman). No. 6 in the 2022 State Rankings. @BridgelandBsb | @TwelveRecruits pic.twitter.com/hJFLx3TkcE
— PBR Texas (@PBR_Texas) June 6, 2020
Jace Laviollete, OF, Tompkins, 2022
The first thing our staff noticed was the considerable change in the body. Seemed to lean out a bit and looked a bit stronger in the lower half. Bat to ball skills have always been there and the scrimmages today were no different. Laviollette back spun a line drive at 100.8 mph off the bat to the CF wall for a triple and moved really well around the bases. Still plenty of room to develop as a player but picked up right where he left off in the batters box.
Rylan Galvan, C, Sinton, 2022
Athletic backstop that moves well behind the dish, has a strong lower half and built like a running back. Blocked and received well behind the dish, moved to the ball well after the block and showed his natural athleticism within the scrimmages. Galvan is athletic enough and probably has the ability to move from behind the dish if he really needed to down the road. Showed some rust on the day at the dish from an approach standpoint but collected one hard hit ball through the left side and still shows quite a bright future all around.
Great look here at @TexasBaseball Recruit ‘22 C Rylan Galvan (@GalvanRylan).
— PBR Texas (@PBR_Texas) June 6, 2020
Athletic backstop shaking off rust at the plate but shows a high athletic ceiling behind dish. Capable of playing all over field. Showed well behind the dish today.@SHS_PirateBball | @TwelveBaseball pic.twitter.com/P6U8i8mzBK
Ryan Williams, C, Bridgeland, 2022
The defense behind the dish is plus. Really showed well all around on the day from a receiving, blocking, moving, throwing standpoint. Shows the ability to work under the ball with a quiet body and receives with ease. Also showed the ability to keep a couple tough blocks close to him and bounced up and got to the ball quickly. From a throwing standpoint, had him between a 1.94 and 2.00 on the bag in between innings and in game. At the dish, hit a ball hard to CF for a single on the day as well. From a frame standpoint, he has plenty of more room to add weight to the lower half. Williams is a no doubt backstop at the next level, the offense will continue to come along with added strength.
.@PBR_Uncommitted ‘22 C Ryan Williams (@williams8ryan) is a player that really showed well today.
— PBR Texas (@PBR_Texas) June 6, 2020
Plus defender behind the dish. Recieved, blocked, threw at a high level. Handled the arms really well.
Hard hit 1B thru left side with 90.5 EV. @BridgelandBsb | @TwelveRecruits pic.twitter.com/TGQa2eF0Ts
Trey Duffield, OF, Strake Jesuit, 2022
6-foot-3, 190-lbs, high waisted physical frame in the box. Put a couple really nice swings on the ball on the day, driving both for extra bases. First ball he hit was for a home run over the CF fence at 97.5 mph exit velo with a 29.6 degree launch angle, carrying 378 feet. Duffield followed that up with a hard hit double to the left center field gap. Duffield has the frame to dream about as a coach, and will continue to add strength. He will need to continue to prove his ability to hit at the dish but was able to flash his high upside and raw power.

Jackson Braun, UTL, Cypress Christian, 2022
Braun showed good athleticism playing all around the diamond in the middle infield, outfield and caught behind the plate and looked good, smooth at all spots.
Kain Sanchez, C, Caldwell, 2022
Undersized catcher that bodies up pitches very well and keeps them in front. He has a quick exchange and release when runners run on him. At the plate, he has a quick swing with a slightly uphill path and showed the ability to take pitches to the opposite field.
Jack Little, IF, Katy Tompkins, 2022
