Top Prospect Preview: 2021 Northern Nevada Prospects
August 26, 2020
With the Top Prospect Games quickly approaching, we will be taking a look at a number of players to watch in the Prospect Preview leading into Nevada's largest event of the summer hosted Las Vegas Ballpark. This event will features some of the top players from the 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 classes who will be analyzed and assess with the help of the most advanced technology in baseball, TrackMan and Blast Motion. Day 1 will feature a Pro-Style workout where players will be running a Laser Timed 60, Batting Practice session using Blast Motion to analyze In-Swing Data and TrackMan to assess Post Contact Metrics, Outfield Evaluations, Infield Evaluations and Catcher Evaluations. Day 2 will include Live-Streamed simulated play that will allow some of the top arms in the state to showcase their abilities against some of the best bats Nevada has to offer.

Seth McGrath - 2021, Bishop Manogue, Uncommitted
The two-way prospect out of Bishop Manogue comes into the Top Prospect event as one of the top remaining prospects still not the board in Northern Nevada. At 6-foot-0, 187 pounds, McGrath has present strength that earned a 90 mph Raw Exit Velocity going into his junior campaign and with his added strength, that number is expected to increase this weekend. At the Northern Nevada Scout Day earlier this year, his fastball topped sat at 84 mph with a changeup and curveball both ranging from 70-73 mph. McGrath is a prospect that the PBR Staff will be keeping a close eye on this weekend as he comes in as an Under the Radar prospect that might not stay that way much longer.

PJ Gilbert - 2021, McQueen, Uncommitted
Gilbert is a McQueen product that has continued to make that consistent progressions throughout his high school career. Some added strength to his 5-foot-7 frame has translated into an increase in power numbers at the plate as well as an improved 60 Time that he is looking to break under that 7.00 benchmark. At the Northern Nevada Prospect Update, he posted an 87 mph Exit Velocity via TrackMan and could improve one that number this weekend. In the shortened high school season, Gilbert his .523 in the lead off spot for the Lancer and the scrappy middle infielder is a prospect who should open some eyes at the Top Prospect event.
It’s great seeing players like @PjGilbert4 continuing to make improvements during the current shut down! #BeSeen https://t.co/TUWfZrdQ4Y

Carnes comes into the Top Prospect event as a two-way prospect, but he projects to move on the next level as a pitcher, especially after the improvements he made at the Northern Nevada Prospect Update earlier this summer. At 5-foot-11 and only 150 pounds, he has plenty of room to add size and strength and his velocity should parallel his physical development. The long, loose arm action that he possesses makes him in an interesting follow with some life on his fastball that topped out at 83 mph, but he does tend to slow up on his secondary pitches that with some polish could develop into quality pitches.
Thank you @PBR_Nevada for recognizing my progress. Look forward to the next event. @mcqbaseball @nnvbaseballclub @mmccarthy35 @FRC_Baseball @Realmvpbaseball @CoachDrakeNCSA @ButteBaseball @NWUBaseball https://t.co/5KmQyWfTxl
