Top Prospect Games Stetson: 2021/2022 Player Breakdown

On August 22nd PBR Florida held the Top Prospect Games at Stetson University. This Top Prospect Games was a part of our fall Top Prospect Series to bring events closer to players and parents to help maximize exposure and limit time and travel. A talented group took part in a pro-style workout an simulated game at Stetson. Over the next week we will break down each of the 2019s-2022s in attendance. Today we take a look at the 2021/2022s who took part in the Top Prospect Games

Mason Scroggie 3B / RHP / Trinity Catholic, FL / 2021

The 6-foot, 195 pound 3B/RHP has a stocky frame and strong lower half. Defensively, he works under control, hands work well, a short arm action and throws had carry, topped at 85 mph form the outfield. Offensively, he uses his strength well. With present, quick hands, he is able to overcome the somewhat late separation. There is bat to ball skills with strength and power potential. On the mound, he lands closed and cuts himself off. He has present arm strength and will make some big jumps as he begins to land more consistently in line. The fastball worked from 79-82 mph and also has a 64-69 mph curveball and a 67-69 mph changeup. Overall, there are multiple above average tools to follow moving forward.

John Gibas C / RHP / Trinity Catholic, FL / 2021

5-foot-10, 165 pound catcher. Defensively, he has solid defensive actions. Quick, clean transfer and footwork is solid that will continue to improve with strength. Pop times range from 2.12-2,29. Offensively, he has a simple and level swing. There is present bat to ball skills, was on the barrel consistently in BP and translated to a single in the game. The tools play and will continue to improve as he matures and adds strength.

Logan Piedra C / 3B / Saint Thomas Aquinas, FL / 2021

Stocky, 5-foot-8, 172 pound catcher. Has present ability that plays up in game play. Defensively, pop times ranged from 2.14-2.2 and is solid receiver and blocker. Offensively, he worked with a small leg kick trigger and has an overall simple swing. Showed the ability to stay on the barrel and had line drives from gap to gap in BP.

Brett Blair 3B / SS / Buchholz, FL / 2021

One of the biggest winners of the day the physical 6-foot-2, 195 pound third baseman has present athleticism and multiple above average tools. Defensively, he moves well, under control but above average range with above average defensive potential for third base. Offensively, there is present whippiness in the swing, with above average bat speed. He has a strong lower half and stays compact while generating bat speed and power. An exit velocity of 90 moh, he also had a single in the game. The bat works and has hit/power potential. High follow.

Max McClusky SS / 3B / West Orange, FL / 2022

5-foot-9, 140 pounds he showed simple, solid all around actions. Defensively, he worked under control and made all of the plays. Has some athleticism and feel for the position. Offensively, he also has a simple swing. It is compact and level and translated to a hard hit out and a single in the game.The actions work and will continue to improve as he matures and adds strength.

Landon Moran LHP / 1B / Lake Brantley, FL / 2022

The long, lean and projectable 6-foot, 165 pound 1B/LHP/OF has a giant upside. He continues to show his high level arm talent. Topped out at 83 mph from the outfield, is 81 mph in the infield with solid actions and footwork around the bag. Offensively, he uses his long limbs to create leverage. Has some length, but above average bat speed and power potential. On the mound, he worked 79-82 mph with life and tilt on the fastball. As he adds strength and continues to learn to repeat, he will make some large stride. Both the curveball at 63 mph and changeup at 70 mph have potential. He has a loose, athletic body and an extremely high ceiling.
