Over the next few weeks, we will continue to take a look at players who will be participating in the PBR Kentucky Top Prospect Games at Western Kentucky University June 16-17. The event affords players the opportunity to showcase their abilities in pre-game infield/outfield, batting practice, and game play. More than 40 players who attended last year’s Top Prospect Games event have committed to play at the college level with many more yet to come. This year’s event will feature the top uncommitted Class of 2016 and 2017 players from across Kentucky.

Michael Higgins, a 2016 RHP from South Oldham HS, participated in the Preseason All-State Showcase in higginsFebruary and showed a significant increase in velocity. Below is a look at Higgins’ scouting report from the event.

2/14/15 - 6-foot-1, 165-pound RHP has added 10 pounds to projectable frame since last summer and showed a significant increase in velocity, uses long arm action through a high-3/4 to over the top arm slot, showed a little more effort in delivery than in the past, fastball sat 85-87 mph and touched 89 on one occasion, showed some feel for 69-72 mph curveball, shows confidence in 77-81 mph changeup that displays some arm-side fade and sink, changeup is thrown with good arm action, continues to develop into one of the top arms in the 2016 class in Kentucky.

Due to an injury, Higgins, currently ranked No. 12 in the 2016 class, saw limited time on the mound this spring. He is back pitching again and will take the mound at WKU for the Top Prospect Games in trying to solidify himself as one of the top arms in Kentucky’s 2016 class.
