On August 5th and 6th PBR Colorado hosted their 4th annual Top Prospect Games at historic Cherry Creek High School. 70 prospects from the 2019-2021 classes showed up for the two day event that featured both a pro-style workout and games each day. The other day we started with the Catchers Analysis, then Corners and today we look at the Outfield position

Best of the Best:
Sam Doubet OF / 2B / Regis Jesuit High School, CO / 20195-foot-9, 165-pound right hand hitting OF/2B who ran a 7.00 60. At the plate he is slightly open with a long stride to come square. Weight drives hard through the zone and swing path is uphill. He has explosive hands and good extension on contact. Exit velocity was 88 MPH. In the field he shows good athletic actions and uses his speed to cut down balls in the gap. He delivers from a high ¾ arm slot and arm velocity was 76 MPH from right field.

Jakob Porter OF / ThunderRidge, CO / 2019Rankings State Rank:39 POS:6
5-foot-11, 170-pound right hand hitting OF. Porter was available on day two of the showcase and wasted no time jumping in to get noticed. At the plate he collected three hits on the day and swiped 2 bases. Exit velocity was 89 MPH. In the field he moves well and attacks balls in the gap. He has a strong accurate 83 MPH arm from right field.

Braden Witzel OF / SS / Burlington , CO / 20195-foot-10, 170-pound right hand OF/RHP who ran a 7.15 60. At the plate he starts open with a long stride to come square. Weight drives hard to the front side on the swing and the path is uphill. During the live round he hit several balls deep into the left center gap. Exit velocity was 84 MPH. In the field he showed quick athletic actions on balls in the outfield. He showed a quick transfer and throws from a high ¾ arm slot. Arm velocity was 86 MPH. On the mound he has a simple motion, good balance and drive to the plate. He uses a short arm to get to a high ¾ release. He lands in-line on the pitch and follow through keeps him square. He was efficient on the game with a 77 MPH fastball on both sides of the plate. He also showcased a 68 MPH curve with 11/5 break.

5-foot-9, 135-pound right hand hitting OF/2B who ran a 7.10 60. At the plate he uses a high lift and place stride to load hard on his back side. Weight drives through the zone and and swing path is uphill. He did show good extension at contact and hit several hard line drives during the live round. Exit velocity was 81 MPH. In the field he is fluid and glides to the ball. He shows good form and a quick transfer. Throws were accurate to the bag and arm velocity was 76 MPH.

Quinton Flanscha C / OF / Fowler High Schokl, CO / 20195-foot-10, 165-pound right hand hitting OF/C who ran a 7.30 60. At the plate he is balanced and uses a slow load on the pitch to get to his back side. Weight moves through the zone on the swing and swing path is slightly uphill. Finishes with hands high and exit velocity was 76 MPH. In the field he showed good solid mechanics and fields through the ball. Transfer is quick and he delivers from a high ¾ arm slot. Arm velocity was 73 MPH with accuracy to the bag.

Brad Lang LHP / OF / Cherry creek, CO / 20216-foot-1, 157-pound switch hitting OF/LHP. At the plate from the left side he is balanced with a high leg kick on the pitch. Swing path is up hill and he covers all parts of the field well. Exit velocity was 81 MPH from the left side. Right handed he is slightly open with a lift and place stride. Weight drives through the zone from this side and he showed good extension out front. Exit velocity was 88 MPH from the right side. In the field he uses his long legs to cover ground in the gap. He showed good mechanics and delivered an accurate 68 MPH ball from the outfield. On the mound he has a projectable frame for a freshman. He has a smooth motion and drives to the plate from a good balanced position. Arm slot is over the top and at times high ¾. As he grows into his body, velocity will come up, but command is good. Fastball was 69 MPH at this event.

Chandler Mason OF / RHP / Pueblo West, CO / 20206-foot-2, 190-pound left hand hitting OF/RHP. At the plate he is balanced and uses a high leg kick to load hard on his back side. Swing path is uphill and he shows strong leg drive on the swing. Exit velocity was 88 MPH for this event. In the field he is solid with good mechanics. He gets the ball to his throwing side well and delivers from a high ¾ arm slot. Arm velocity was 71 MPH. On the he delivers form an over the top arm slot, he would benefit from a longer stride and more drive. He lands in-line with the plate and falls off slightly on his follow through. Command was good at the games and fastball was 77 MPH. He also used a 68 MPH slider with back door action to set hitters up.

Gabe Rogers OF / RHP / Palmer Ridge, CO / 20196-foot-3, 165-pound right hand hitting OF/RHP who ran a 7.12 60. At the plate he stands tall and loaded on the back side. His length creates an uphill path to the ball. He shows good plate coverage and handles the down ball well. Exit velocity was 81 MPH. In the field he uses his quickness to cut the ball off. He has long strides and gets into a good mechanical position when playing the outfield. He delivers and accurate 75 MPH ball from right. On the mound he uses his height to close ground on the plate. He lands in-line with the plate, but falls off to first base after the delivery. He throws from an over the top slot and his fastball was 76 MPH. He also added a 60 MPH split with good down movement late in the zone.

Jack Sletten OF / RHP / Regis Jesuit HS, CO / 20196-foot-0, 190-pound right hand hitting OF/RHP. He is balanced at the plate with hands high in the zone. He uses a long stride and strong lower leg drive on his swing. Weight gets slightly stuck on the back side. Swing path is uphill and exit velocity was 89 MPH. In the field he showed good instincts and actions during the evaluation round. He throws from over the top and delivered several accurate balls at 70 MPH. On the mound he gets balanced and drive hard to the plate. His landing is stiff and he throw over his front leg. Arm is quick and over the top. Fast ball was 74 MPH with good command away and he used a 64 MPH curve to keep hitters off balance.

6-foot-1, 150-pound right hand hitting OF/C who ran a 7.30 60. At the plate he is balanced before the pitch, he uses a high leg kick to load on his back side and weight drives forward on the swing. Good extension out front produced an exit velocity of 82 MPH. In the field he glides to the ball, he always seemed to be in proper position and showed a good quick transfer on the throw. Arm velocity was 74 MPH with good accuracy to the bag.

5-foot-11, 170-pound left hand hitting OF/1B who ran a 7.21 60. At the plate he is balanced with a short stride for timing. Swing path is uphill with good whip through the zone. He showed good bat control during the live round and moved the ball around to all fields. Exit velocity was 85 MPH. In the field he showed good instinct and body positioning on balls hit to him. He has a quick transfer and long over the top arm. Arm was accurate to the back and velocity was 73 MPH from right field.

Campbell Thurman OF / RHP / Regis jesuit, CO / 20196-foot-180-pound right hand hitting OF/RHP. He has a simple set up and approach at the plate. A short stride gets the swing going and he hits off a firm front side. Bat travels level through the zone and hands are quick with whip. Exit velocity was 85 MPH. In the field he moves well to the ball and does a nice job on the transfer. Arm velocity was 75 MPH from an over the top slot. On the mound he works quickly. A fast motion to get balanced and then he sinks and drives hard to the plate. Does a nice job of throwing off two feet and downhill. Good extension on his release. Fastball was 81 MPH with command. He also showed the hitter a 69 MPH curve with 11/5 break and a 73 MPH change with late downward movement.

Connor Quinn OF / RHP / Erie , CO / 2021At the plate he is slightly open with hands help high in the zone. He uses a long stride to come square to to load on his back side. Swing path is slightly uphill and weight shifts through the zone. Hands have a long way to travel and he shows good extension out front. Exit velocity was 78 MPH. In the he showed good awareness and positioning. He is aggressive on the delivery and throws from an over the top arm slot. Throws were accurate to the bag and arm velocity was 71 MPH.
