Top Prospect Games: Middle Infield Analysis

The third annual invite-only Top Prospect Games took place on June 8th at LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA. The event featured over 50 uncommitted 2022s. Prospects participated in a pro-style workout followed by simulated game play. We have already done a thorough inspection of the statistics collected from the event that can be viewed HERE.
Today, we will continue the player analysis from the event with a look at the middle infielders. Keep reading to view reports on the top-5 middle infield prospects in attendance, plus reports on the rest of the middle infielders, listed alphabetically.
Top Middle Infield Prospects
Omari Daniel, The Walker School (GA), 2022
Positional Profile: SS Top uncommitted 22, very athletic with advanced tools.
Body: 6-2, 180-pounds. Tall slender frame, high waisted.
Hit: RHH. Wide base, balanced throughout swing, loads pressure into back hip, explodes through the ball, clears hip well. Short swing path, creates good separation, whips bat through with advanced hand speed, looks to back-spin balls to the gaps.

Arm: RH. INF - 96.00 mph. Short, over the top arm slot, throws from 3/4 arm slot on forehands and slow rollers, electric arm, great carry and accuracy.

Edward Phelps III, Norcross (GA), 2023
Positional Profile: SS/3B
Body: 6-2, 200-pounds. High level athlete with a strong build, more physicality to come as he continues to mature.
Hit: RHH. Balanced, slightly open setup, hands load back smoothly, short stride, good balance, quiet rhythm. Barrel path is long to the zone, elite hand and bat speed allow for him to get extension and drive balls to all fields, back spins fly balls, major power to pull-side, low effort throughout.
Power: 101.09 max exit velocity, averaged 89.45 mph. 378.00’ max distance. Easy, low effort power.
Arm: RH. INF - 85.00 mph. Long, loose arm action to a 3/4 slot, elite arm speed, throws carry with ease.

Taylor Shultz, Allatoona (GA), 2022
Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 5-8, 160-pounds. Lean athlete, muscular lower half.
Hit: RHH. Open setup, keeps it simple, hands load back smoothly, short stride, balanced throughout. Compact swing, short to the zone, level through, line drive type hitter, can spray the ball to all fields, consistently barrels the ball.
