Top Prospect Games II: OF/1B Analysis

In August, over 40 players from Virginia, DC, and neighboring states descended on Old Dominion University for the Top Prospect II Games. These players were from the Class of 2020, 2021, and 2022. Today we begin our in-depth analysis of the players who took part in that event with the outfielders and first basemen.
Outfielders
Alex Brown LHP / OF / Osbourn, VA / 2021Brown is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from an upright athletic stance, short leg kick stride on line, load back, hips rotate completely with some violence, some balance to swing. Line drive swing, short to ball with some batspeed, slightly uphill path, used whole field, has some power to pull side, exit velocity was 87. In the outfield, charges ball hard and fields with average hands, quick clean exchange, low three quarters arm slot, position velocity was 77. |
Bryson Dansberry OF / 2B / Nansemond River, VA / 2020Dansberry has committed to Radford since the Prospect Games. Dansberry is 5-8 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He is a switch hitter, from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, loads down and back into a wrap, hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some balance during his swing. Short to ball, uphill path with extension through it and strength at contact, showed slight pull preference, exit velocity was 84. From the left side, exit velocity was 78. In the outfield, has speed, rounds ball and fields with above average hands that are fast, quick clean exchange. Athletic defender. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a fast arm and lots of carry, position velocity was 82. Showed versatility taking balls in the infield as well, velocity was 80. |
Sean Goodhart OF / OF / Loudoun County, VA / 2021Goodhart is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, strides on line, loads back into a wrap, hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some balance during his swing. Short and quick to ball, slightly uphill path with extension through it, showed slight pull preference got more uphill to pull side, exit velocity was 79. In the outfield, has speed, fields with average hands, clean exchange. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 81. |
Trent Jones OF / SS / Cape Henry, VA / 2020Jones is 6-1 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an athletic stance, strides on line, smoothly loads down, hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some balance during his swing at contact. Gets hands into slot and is short and quick to ball, slightly uphill path with extension through it and some whip in his bat, showed slight pull preference, exit velocity was 87. In the outfield, has speed, fields through the ball with active feet and with above average hands, quick clean exchange. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a quick loose arm, position velocity was 81. Showed versatility taking balls in the infield, position velocity there was 82. |
Earl Skrine OF / RHP / St. John's College , VA / 2021Skrine is 5-10 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open athletic stance, strides on line, load back to a wrap, hips rotate completely with some violence, good balance to swing. Very short to ball with some batspeed, slightly uphill path, primarily pull approach, showed ability to use whole field, line drive swing with some strength at contact, exit velocity was 79. In the outfield, charges ball and fields with average hands, clean exchange, lower three quarters arm slot, position velocity was 75. |
Lucas Sorensen OF / 1B / West Springfield, VA / 2021Sorenson is 6-1 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, strides on line, smoothly loads back, some rhythm to setup, hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains good balance during his swing. Quick to ball, fast bat with some whip to it, slightly uphill path with extension through it and strength at contact, showed slight pull preference, line drive swing with some power potential, exit velocity was 86. In the outfield, gets body behind ball and fields with average hands, clean exchange as he play through the ball. Throws from a high high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 80. |
First Basemen
Nicholas Hess RHP / 1B / Colonial Heights, VA / 2021Hess is 6-2 with a lanky frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open athletic stance, short leg kick stride on line, loads back to a slight wrap, hips rotate completely with some violence, good balance to swing. Very quick to ball with some batspeed and extension through it, slightly uphill path, slight pull approach, strength at contact, exit velocity was 82. At first base, gets body behind ball and fields with average hands, three quarters arm slot, position velocity was 74. |
Ty Johnson 1B / LHP / Norfolk Christian, VA / 2020Johnson is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the left side from an open athletic stance, heel lift stride, loads back to a bar, hips rotate violently, good balance to swing. Very quick to ball with batspeed and extension through it, level to slightly uphill swing path, used whole field, strength at contact and power potential, exit velocity was 91. At first base, gets body behind ball and fields with average hands and a wider base, high three quarters arm slot, position velocity was 80. |
LENNON PARIS1B / C / BOYERTOWN AREA, PA / 2020Paris is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open athletic stance, short leg kick stride on line, smooth load back, hips rotate with some violence and he maintains some balance during his swing. Level path, line drive swing, some strength at contact, showed good approach using middle of field, exit velocity was 81. At first, gets body behind ball and fields with a wider base and average hands. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 68. |
