Quick Hits

John D Mitchell RHP / 3B / St. John XXIII College Preparatory, TX / 2024

It is always fun to watch the Air Force recruit toe the rubber. He attacks each outing with a purpose and a plan. The 6’2 Righty was up to 91 with occasional cut that really played up in the zone.  He complimented it with two different breaking balls. He threw the more traditional curveball that he lands for strikes and can really rip and bury at the bottom of the zone.  He also has a more sweeping slider that he can generate swings off the plate with. Overall, it was a really good day for Mitchell, who continues to get better with each viewing.

Walker Hurst OF / OF / Clear Creek, TX / 2025

Hurst had one of the better overall performances at Texas State.  The talented outfielder started his day by running a 6.61 showing the required speed to play centerfield.  He showed a strong, accurate arm from the outfield topping out at 86 mph.  At the plate, Hurst showed some athleticism and bat speed.   He maxed out at 76.3 on bat speed, helping him have a top exit velocity of 98.2  He also had multiple good ab’s during the gameplay portion of the event. Overall, Hurst is a twitchy athlete who can do a lot of different things on the field.

James Jorgensen SS / RHP / Jesuit College Prep, TX / 2026

The 2022 Jr. Future Gamer continues to show some loud tools this summer.  Jorgenson ran a 6.91 60 and then followed that up defensively with throws of 93 from the OF and 87 from the INF showing a plus arm.  At the plate, Jorgensen had one of the best max exit velocities of the event with a best of 97.2 mph.  Jorgensen continues to show loud tools, but they translate in game as well.

Graham Charboneau 3B / OF / Kingwood, TX / 2026

Charboneau showed off some serious tools in the box at Texas State. The 6’3 rising soph. Had a max exit velocity of 96.7 mph and showed off plus bat speed. His Blast numbers had him at a max bat speed of 77.2, which is really  getting it through the zone.  There is big raw power in the frame, and as he continues to gain strength, Charboneau is gonna have some of the biggest power in the ‘26 class. He showed a good glove, and plenty of arm to be a quality 3rd baseman as he gets older. Overall, a really good day for Charboneau, who is going to be one to follow closely moving forward.

Lawson Behan SS / RHP / Lamar, TX / 2026

One of my personal favorites from Texas State was Behan. The sophomore plays the game with confidence and has a lot of tools to back it up. He ran a solid 7 flat 60 to start his day, that will continue to get better as he gets stronger.  He showed plenty of arm to stay at short, topping out at 86 mph.  At the plate, Behan shows plus bat speed and the ability to drive the ball with authority. He had a max exit velocity of 96.6 and topped out at 371 ft. for his farthest ball hit.  Behan has a lot of tools, and he should be one of the big risers in our next ranking update.

Brock Golwas OF / RHP / Marcus, TX / 2025

Golwas looks like a Linebacker in his uniform, but the rising Junior from FM Marcus is one of the more athletic outfielders in the state.  He ran a 6.64 60 and was 86 from the outfield, profiling perfectly in centerfield.  He had a top exit velocity of 96.1 showing his ability to really impact the baseball in the batter’s box.  Golwas has battled some injuries, but he has all the tools to become one of the top Outfielders in the state for his class.

Joseph Sandusky SS / 3B / Mcneil, TX / 2025

I was really excited to get an up close look at Sandusky at Texas State, and the talented shortstop didn’t disappoint.  Sandusky has a strong, athletic build and plays the game with plenty of bounce.  He ran a 6.88 to start his day, and then put on a clinic with the glove during his defensive workout. He showed a strong arm, topping out at 88 mph across the diamond.  At the plate, Sandusky has a compact, short swing that generates high exit velocity numbers. He topped out at 95.5 and also showed the ability to backspin the ball to the pull side. Sandusky is one of the top uncommitted middle infielders in the state.

Caden Baker OF / SS / Houston Stratford, TX / 2024

Baker, who recently decommitted from George Mason, had a great day overall. He ran a 6.62 60 showing the speed required to stay up the middle at the next level.  He was 90 from the OF as well, which is plenty good for Centerfield.  Baker also has good actions on the infield and could be a super utility guy at the next level.  At the plate, Baker continues to show improved pop at the plate, and hit a homerun during gameplay.  Overall, it was a really good day for Baker.

Omari Johnson OF / 1B / Cedar Ridge, TX / 2024

One of the players who I didn’t know as much about coming into the day was Johnson, but he made sure I knew who he was by the end of the day. The speedy outfielder from Cedar Ridge high school had the looks of a top of the order centerfielder.  He started his day by running a blistering 6.58 60, showing the speed necessary to stick in CF.  At the plate, he showed a line drive oriented swing used to spray balls all over the field. In game, his barrel skills showed up as he had consistent ab’s and found his way on base multiple times. I expect Johnson to continue to gain some momentum through the rest of the summer and this fall.

Easton Dean C / 3B / Saint Pius X Houston , TX / 2024

Just a couple weeks after impressing in East Texas, Dean came to Texas State and did even better. The rising senior backstop showed off his power during BP. He topped out at 95.4 mph for his top exit velocity, and consistently drove the ball with authority.  He was 85 across the diamond showing he has the arm to play 3rd when he needs a rest from behind the plate.  Overall, Dean has a strong frame and is a good receiver behind the plate.  There is a premium on good defensive catchers who deliver offensive potential from the left side, and Dean offers exactly that. He is one of the top uncommitted backstops in the state.

Conner Cramer C / 3B / Oak Ridge, TX / 2024

Another catcher that had a really good day is Cramer. He is a leader behind the plate, and seems to take control of the game when he is back there. He is a good receiver and works hard on his blocking.  He has a strong arm, topping out at 81 mph from behind the plate, and it translates on his pop times which are consistently sub 2.1.  At the plate, Cramer has a bit of unorthodox start to his swing, but by the time he gets his swing off he is in a powerful position and it plays. He had a max exit velocity of 98.2 and top distance of 391 ft. Cramer is another uncommitted LHH catcher that would be an asset to a lot of programs.

Colt Brown C / RHP / La Vernia, TX / 2025

Brown plays the game with a high motor and is always locked in, you can’t help but notice his play. But he is also a very talented catched. Brown had pop times consistently in the 2.06-2.09 range showing good athleticism and a strong arm from behind the plate.  He is a good receiver, and shows the willingness to be a good blocker.  At the plate there is still some rawness in the swing, but there is plenty of raw power, and as he continues to grow into his body, Brown could have above average power.

Mason Hamilton 3B / RHP / Gracewood Academy, TX / 2024

Hamilton continues to show that he has some of the biggest raw power in the state. The rising senior had an event best 103 mph exit velocity and launched multiple balls out of Bobcat stadium.  Hamilton has a good combination of strength and plus bat speed to allow him to launch balls all over the yard. Hamilton also showed a strong arm across the infield, topping out at 89 mph.

Mitchell Morton C / 3B / Plano West , TX / 2025

Morton is one of the premier catch and throw guys in the state regardless of class and he put that on display at Texas State. He is an easy mover behind the plate with a plus arm that helps him generate pop times in the upper 1.8’s. He is also a quality receiver and can really block back there as well.  At the plate, Morton has a swing that keeps him in the big part of the field the majority of the time, but I think there is more power to unleash as he learns to hit the ball more out front. Overall, Morton continues to shine whenever we have a chance to see him.
