Prep Baseball Report Louisiana attended the Louisiana Elite, a new elite select ball program, tryout over this past weekend. Earlier we took a look at some standouts from a pitching perspective, and today we follow up with some position player prospects who stood out during the workout.

Darren Willis, SS, 2016, Rummel HS
A 5-foot-9, 163-pound shortstop that plays for Archbishop Rummel HS. Short, compact build with some present strength. Quality athlete that ran the 60 in 6.78 seconds. Advanced defender with soft hands, actions, quality feet, and arm strength with carry on throws. Right-handed hitter with short swing, quality bat path, line-drive approach with enough bat speed to handle velocity.

Josh Magee, OF, 2015, Franklinton HS
A 5-foot-10, 170-pound uncommitted senior from Franklinton, LA. Athletic build with clear fast twitch movements. Outstanding overall athlete that ran a 6.59 60 yard dash. Advanced defender with tracking speed, instincts and an above average throwing arm. Right-handed hitter with short, compact swing, bat speed, quality bat path, and advanced strike zone discipline. He is also a college prospect on the football field and could quite possibly be a rare two-sport athlete at the next level.

Tyler Reid, INF, 2015, Edna Karr HS
A 6-foot-4, 195-pound uncommitted infielder from New Orleans, LA. Long, extremely athletic and projectable frame. Good overall athlete, long strider that ran a sub-7.0 60 yard dash. Most likely projects into the outfield, very raw in the infield, but flashed soft hands that could keep him at third base and showed an above average throwing arm that raised some eyebrows at the workout. Right-handed hitter with lots of moving parts to the swing, lacks in bat speed, but has clear strength at contact. Rotational swing that attacks, but also spins off. He tends to get long to contact that could cause him to struggle heavily with velocity on the inner half and identifying breaking balls. Obvious present tools to hit, just still a very raw swing but will be an interesting follow for the spring.

Blake Way, INF/OF, 2016, Northshore HS
A 5-foot-9, 175-pound uncommitted infielder from the Northshore area. Short, compact build with clear and present strength. Developed, mature athlete that ran a 6.8 60 yard dash. Raw defender with soft hands, needs to improve on footwork, but can make the move to the outfield if necessary. Right-handed hitter with extremely fast hands, loads of bat speed and strength at contact, creates leverage in the swing and has big pull-side power. Hit numerous balls out of the yard in batting practice and the contact point was extremely violent.

Cody Marshall, SS/2B. 2016, Fontainebleau HS
A 5-foot-8, 160-pound middle infielder from the Northshore area. Short, lean build with fast twitch actions. Quality defender with good feet, soft hands, quick release and arm strength, understands angles and plays fast. Left-handed hitter with short, compact stroke, line-drive approach, stays gap to gap, and makes consistent solid contact.

Austin Lambertson, INF, 2016, Fontainebleau HS
A 6-foot, 170-pound infielder from the Northshore area. Athletic, slender build with developing strength. Third base type tools defensively with soft hands, arm strength, but lacks in foot speed to defend the middle. Right-handed hitter with simple, short stroke, enough bat speed, some strength at contact and quality bat path.

Blake Locicero, OF, 2016, St. Pauls HS
A 5-foot-11, 170-pound outfielder from Mandeville, LA. Slender, athletic build with smooth athletic movements. Good tracking instincts as a defender with quality arm strength. Left-handed hitter with smooth swing, rhythm and tempo, flat bat path, creates some leverage, ample bat speed, and could hit with some power as he gets bigger and stronger. Also a left-handed pitcher, he could become a legitimate two-way player.

Tyler Smith, OF, 2016, Covington HS
A 5-foot-11, 165-pound Louisiana State commit. Athletic, slender build with fast twitch type movements. Quality runner that ran a 6.88 60 yard dash. Good overall defender with tracking speed, instincts, and arm strength. Left-handed hitter that looked rusty during batting practice, but showed a good bat path with bat speed and strength at contact, impacting a few balls nicely towards the end of his round.
