QUICK TAKE
Allen projects big time in the outfield. He moves with a certain finesse as he approaches ball. Shows good range and the ability to cut the ball off at the optimal point. His throws have run and life on them with regular accuracy. Allen is a no doubt corner outfielder on the collegiate level. He's a tall, lean, twitchy strong athlete with a high baseball IQ. Shows good bat-to-ball skills that have some projection too.
SCOUTING REPORT
8/1/18 - SoCal Underclass Games - Six-foot-1, 160-pounds, long, lean, wiry strong frame with squared shoulders, large feet and ample room to add strength/mass. Allen oozes athleticism in his overall game where he projects incredibly well in the outfield and at the plate while showing the ability to pitch presently. On the mound he uses a ¾ arm slot with average arm speed that is loose and easy. Shows good mechanics and balance on the mound where it appears he has way more in the tank. Allen really projects in the outfield where his arm is strong and accurate and he covers a lot of ground with excellent instincts and reads off the bat. Understands angles and tracks balls well. Glides to balls gracefully. At the plate he shows loose hands and a controlled, smooth stroke that is short to the ball with extension through it. Consistently squares balls up with some present line drive power and a middle approach that projects to over-the-fence power in the future.
4/28/18 - Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 160-pound long, lean, wiry strong frame that projects for much more growth both in mass and stature. Big feet, long limbs, and strong hands. Allen is a prototypical outfielder with very range and a well above average arm. Throws are online with carry and accurate. Shows good range moving to both sides and charges balls aggressively but under control. Takes good routes and gets good jumps showing the ability to anticipate contact and direction. Also a pitcher although he did not pitch this day. At the plate Allen displays a very mature approach and sticks to his plan. Starts with hands at or slightly above shoulder and generates his power through the use of his lower half. Shows bat-to-ball skills along with discipline and good pitch recognition. Will not chase balls out of the zone. Very mature hitter for his age.
