Top Performer Spotlight: 2019 RHP Ian Evans (Wilson HS)

Dan Cevette
President, New York

The 2017 WNY All-Star Games took place Sept. 24 at the College of Brockport. Over 60 high-end prospects took the field showing off their skill-sets in front of our PBR NY scouting staff and nearly a dozen college coaches. As the smoke continues to clear, we are fast-at-work piecing together all the scouting data we collected more than three weeks prior. Today we highlight yet another player who's performance earns an extra look.

WNY ASG (Sept 24, 2018) Evans has the frame to pitch. Standing 6-foot-2, 165-pounds, it's easy to see his frame adding 25-pounds before he fully matures. On the mound, he uses a side-step with pace, belt-high knee lift, hands around his shoulder height. He stays over the rubber and compact (maybe crouched) before driving off his back leg towards home, possibly staying taller on his back leg would help. Uses shoulder/hip separation, body length stride with firm landing leg, medium length arm-action but quick (towards second-basemen), aggressive hand-speed from a high-3/4 slot (appears over-the-top due to 1B-line body lean). Fastball sat 84-85 mph, running it up to 87. Curveball at times has tight shape and bit at 70-72. Overall, Evans is a greater buffalo area arm that is only getting better. Time and more development is all the Dr. ordered as the raw-abilities are already in place. Excited to see him his Winter-Spring-Summer.
