Last Chance Preview (November 18, 2017) Batista is a well put together 5-foot-10 200 pound INF/RHP with a strong lower half. Batista ran a 7.28 60. Elbows sway to the side and could improve his speed by tucking his elbows to his body. Offensively- Batista starts with his feet slightly over shoulder width with a still bat at a 20 degree angle. Minimal coil while keeping hands back with upward finish through contact producing fly ball results. Good pop with results playing better than his 75 MPH exit velocity. Very smooth hitting motion with pull hitter tendency; stays in the zone a long time. Defensively- Batista takes a balanced approach to the ball; fields the ball in the center of his body with a smooth transition from glove to throwing hand. Seems to shuffle feet more than necessary before delivering at 79 MPH across the infield. Pitching- Batista sets up to slight inward turn. Medium side step to a knee to chest balance point with slight forward drift. Fastball sat 81-82 MPH; loses some control to arm side as a result of drift and late release from 3/4 arm slot. Quick and sharp 1 to 7 break on curveball ranging from 71-72 MPH. Would like to see Batista develop a change-up to offset his fastball and keep hitters off balance.
