On Sunday, October 14th, over 55 players came together for the Miami Valley Open ID Showcase at Sinclair Community College's field house. Over the course of the next two days, we will release stories on the top players in attendance as well as analysis for all players in attendance.

TOP CLASS OF 2013 PROSPECTS

Derek Helbing, C, Watkins Memorial HS, Class of 2013

5-foot-10, 165-pound catcher. Athletic player showed solid defensive catching skills. Good lower body lateral movement who catches & frames well. Solid arm strength with good glove to hand exchange. Legit split times of 1.96 to 2.04. Projectable physical strength. Hits with open stance, squares front side ok. Gets batspeed from shoulder trigger, squares barrel well. Would like to see enhancement in lower body tourque and hand finish.

Jonathan Banks, C, CHCA, Class of 2013

6-foot-4, 180-pound catching prospect. Good lanky body kid with wiry physical projection. Solid raw skills player. Ran 7.18 60 yard dash with good arm strength. Good catching skills. Lateral movement is ok and catches well. Arm strength relates to split times ranging 1.97 to 2.06. Has open upright hitting stance. Doesn't consistently square front side. Has some power potential. Triggers hands from chest with upper-cut in swing. Has twisting lower half in swing, which can cause pulling off ball.

Cameron Thompson, C, Whetstone HS, Class of 2013

6-foot-1, 190-pound catcher. Good raw skills. Ran 7.31 60 yard dash. Shows good catch and receive skills with compact transfer. Registered 2.00-2.06 pop times. Hits from open stance. Shows good power potential. Squares barrel on ball with quick hands despite low hand trigger and flat plane swing path.

Mitch McCrystal, RHP/OF, Ontario, Class of 2013

6-foot-3, 180-pound prospect with lanky frame and build. Future at the next level is on the mound. Still a bit raw and unpolished but shows some life in his arm. Uses two different arm slots, but shows best stuff from low ¾ arm slot. Fastball sits 81-84 mph with some run. Off speed pitches still need development. Curveball sits at 71 mph without effective break. Slider shows some potential at 69-70 mph. From the outfield, he reached a top velocity of 85 mph, but lacked accuracy. At the plate, he tends to bar his arm in his load, which creates some length. Takes a flat path to the ball.

Brock Frentzel, 1B, Gahanna-Lincoln HS, Class of 2013

6-foot-3, 220-pound left-handed hitting prospect. Big strong body. Offensive skill with be his ticket. Hits with slight crouch. Has good trigger and gets bat head into zone from shoulder trigger. Definite power potential. Has good hand finish but would like to see more consistency in lower body torque which will enhance power. Shows some lateral range and feet defensively and fields to what he gets to with playable arm. Could move to left field as well but will need to increase footspeed (7.63 60 yard).
