On Sunday, October 14th, over 55 players came together for the Miami Valley Open ID Showcase at Sinclair Community College's field house. Over the course of the next two days, we will release stories on the top players in attendance as well as analysis for all players in attendance.

TOP UNDERCLASS PROSPECTS 

Tyler Duvall, C/RHP, Lebanon HS, Class of 2016

The 5-foot-9, 170-pound catcher that has the chance to be one of his class' top prospects with added maturity. Athletic, good body strength for his age. Shows sound baseball skills and feel for the game. Defensively, has good lower body lateral movement; catches & frames well. Arm strength shows some carry. Tendency to be tad long on back arm extension, but was compact on his best split throw of 1.94. Hits from open stance, squares front side; shows quick hands and bat speed from shoulder trigger. Puts barrel on ball with power projection; good lower body torque. On the bump, quick arm speed from upper 3/4 slot, fastball ranged 81-83 with some life. Curve was 61-62 mph with downward spin; slider 73 mph w/some bite and showed some arm side run on change up 72-73 mph.

Jarod Yoakam, 1B/3B, Marysville HS, Class of 2014

6-foot-1, 175-pound corner infield prospect. Good physical projection. shows raw wiry power. Bat is definite ticket. Slight upright power stance. with excellent hand quickness and bat speed into zone. Squares barrel on ball with definite power potential. Keeps weight back and has good hand finish and lower body torque. Good glove defensively, good hands, and arm strength. Moves well around the bag.

Ricky Silvestri, IF, CHCA, Class of 2014

6-foot, 190-pound corner infield prospect. His offensive projection is his definite key. Potential to be one of the top 2014 bats in Ohio’. Similar to 2013 OF Zach Sterry (Oakland commit). Should project some physical strength. Hits with open upright stance and squares front side. Strong handsl bat is quick into the zone with long finish. Shows definite power potential. Gets good lower body torque. Corner infield guy that shows decent fee, hands, and arm strength (78 mph). Needs to improve foot speed (7.9 60 yard).

Hunter Stewart, OF/1B/3B, Miamisburg HS, Class of 2014

6-foot-4, 185 prospect with very projectable body. Athletic player whose skills should enhance with increase of physical strength. Ran 7.14 60 yard dash with solid arm strength (81 mph) from outfield. Corner guy with good body balance. Third base skills are good with hands and feet. Has upright hitting stance. Shows power potential with quick bat speed from shoulder trigger. Squares barrel on ball with good swing finish. Could improve with more lower body torque in swing and consistently keeping weight back in trigger. Shows aptitude in his game.

Sam Montgomery, OF/IF, Bishop Hartley, Class of 2014

5-foot-9, 145-pound prospect. Despite smallish body, he was one of the best raw skills guy in the showcase, running a 6.85 60 yard dash with arm strength (83 mph). Obviously needs to enhance his physical strength. Shows good infield skills; feet/hands and balance with arm from all angles. Outfield throws shows some carry. Possible center field type. Hits with open stance, squares front side with good bat speed from shoulder trigger. Has controlled upper-cut in zone with good hand finish and lower body torque.  

Ethan Stringer, OF/RHP, Beechwood HS (KY), Class of 2016

6-foot, 175-pound prospect. Good athletic player with projectable skills. Showed good movement as outfielder with solid over top release and 86 mph arm strength. Offensively, hits from open stance, triggers hands from chest. Quick hands, shows power potential with good lower half torque and finish. Needs to continue improving plate coverage and ability to go the opposite way. Registered 7.37 60-yard dash.

Andrew Almquist, RHP/OF, Lakota East HS, Class of 2015

5-foot-11, 165-pound prospect. Has projection to be good two-shot player. Athletic with projection. On the bump, shows some balance in delivery with quick arm speed through upper 3/4 slot. Fastball showed some late life, ranging 79-82 mph. Needs to enhance off speed effectiveness. Showed little feel on curveball (62-65 mph) and change (69-71 mph, straight action). Ran 7.31 60 yard. Hits with open stance with high back side hand set. Doesn't square front side. Triggers hands from chest with flat bat plane. Does have good hand finish and gets lower body torque.
