Scouting Report
6/20/17 East Coast Pro Showcase: 6-foot-7, 240-pound big, tall lefty. Verbally committed to Arkansas and is ranked No. 9 overall in Indiana’s deep class of ‘18 arms. On the mound he throws with some effort to his delivery that has a slight pause in it just before he goes to make a pitch. Lands slightly more closed and finishes with his momentum carrying toward the third base side. Pitching from a full hands over the head windup he has quickness to his arm speed thrown through a ¾ slot. His fastball features arm-side run at times and was thrown consistently between 87-88 mph and touched 89 mph one time. Still developing his two off-speed pitches a curveball that is thrown on a 1/7 plane at 72 mph and a changeup in which he throws using fastball arm speed at 79-84 mph.
8/5/16 FUTURE GAMES: As the highest profile prospect at the Future Games, Sweeney kicked off Indiana’s pitching parade in the first inning. Sweeney features a big, durable 6-foot-6, 220-pound frame and a fastball that ranged between 87-88, touching 89 once in his one-inning stint. He also flashed a 74-79 breaking ball and a 79 mph changeup.
4/13/16 GAME NOTES: The 6-foot-6, 220 pound southpaw impressed last night, sitting 87-90 in the first inning with a 75 mph breaking ball. He settled in at 85-88 later in the fourth. He pitched four innings, compiling 6 Ks while walking 2. The No. 1 ranked player in Indiana's 2018 class still has some rawness to him, but he's only a sophomore and has an ideal pitchers frame with an easy arm action that projects to add more velocity as he matures. Huge upside.
8/2/15 FUTURE GAMES: Sweeney has an ideal frame at 6-foot-6, 205 pounds and was easily one of the most impressive arms at the Future Games. His loose, easy arm action projects to add more velocity down the road. Against Team Kentucky, he sat 86-88 with his fastball. His 72-75 breaking ball, thrown from a high-3/4 slot, showed more sweeping action and is still in the development stage, but Sweeney is young and has a high upside.
