No. 3: Bobby Nicholson 6-foot-3, 205 pound, RHP, 2016 (Univ. of Virginia)
Nicholson lives minutes away from Virginia’s campus and committed to them very early. He gained national attention with a head-turning performance at the first ever Area Code Underclass Games in San Diego in August. Here is Nicholson’s scouting report from that outing:
Report from the Area Code Underclass:
RHP Bobby Nicholson (St. Anne’s-Belfield HS, VA) relieved Belge and pitched two innings. He allowed two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out one. A Virginia recruit, he already pitches with what is considered the UVA delivery, crouching slightly in his windup. While the cookie cutter approach gets panned by scouts and opposing coaches, it seems to be working for Nicholson. He comes from a three-quarter slot and gets good life on his fastball, which ranged from 85-91. He also showed a tight slider at 78-80 and mixed in a low-80s changeup. He has a projectable frame and showed off his athleticism making a play off the mound.
