Top-10 Profiles of 2019: No. 2 Termarr Johnson

Phil Kerber
Georgia Scouting Director

The No. 2 ranked player in the state of Georgia and No. 5 overall, MIF Termarr Johnson (Mays, 2022) enters our countdown as the second most viewed profile of the year. Johnson is a 5-foot-9, 145-pound quick-twitch athlete who is quickly adding strength to his frame, rounding out one of the top skill sets in the entire country. What makes him even more impressive is the energy that he brings to the park every time he steps on the diamond. His natural talent already make him a top prospect, but couple that with the energy that he has something to prove, makes him a premier prospect in the country.

Johnson's arm plays loose, whip-like on the infield and he flashes the leather any chance he gets. Offensively, it is must watch stuff every time he gets to the plate. His swing is violent and aggressive, working on a level path through the zone. Every time we have seen Johnson he has routinely barreled pitches up and given them a ride. Still uncommitted, Johnson will no doubt have the opportunity to play at any college/university of his liking. At his current trajectory though, chances are are he will not see campus come the 2022 MLB Draft.

No. 2: Termarr Johnson

Scouting Report

6/24/19Stands 5-foot-9, 145-pounds with twitchy-athleticism throughout, and some natural strength present. Singled in his first at-bat and later drove a ball high and deep to the back side gap. Large, pronounced leg kick works in sync with fluent, downward hands, and the barrel whips through the zone with some strength to all fields. Impressive prospect in the 2022 class.

10/08/18It took all of one throw in the outfield while warming up for 2022 Termarr Johnson (Mays HS, GA) to stand out. His quick, whippy arm and flashy glove skills immediately catch the eye, even though he is only 5-foot-8, 140-pounds. His energy on the diamond is relentless, and he plays with a confidence that is unmatched and unparalleled even amongst players two years his senior. A left-handed hitter, Johnson utilizes a bigger leg kick to trigger his hands down and back before his quick hands and aggressive hips whip the barrel through the zone on a level plane with a higher finish. He smashed a double to the opposite field off the fence on the third day after posting quality at-bats throughout with a plethora of walks. Johnson’s energy and athleticism make it hard to look away when he’s performing, and he already looks like one of the premier prospects in the 2022 class.

7/23/18Young middle infielder jumped out for his all-around tool package, including special defense and speed.  Short, athletic frame w/ high-waist, some present lower half strength.  Twitchy w/ projection.  Offensively, hits w/ a slightly open, very slightly crouched stance into leg kick and proper load.  Generates bat speed through the zone w/ proper path.  Advanced hand-eye coordination.  Projectable pull power as frame matures.  Plus runner ran a 4.28 and 4.15 down the line from the left side.  Defensively, features special actions now, soft hands, plays through the ball well w/ first step quickness to both directions and easy arm strength.
