Scouting Notes: An athletic 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, the righty flashed arm strength working up to 88, while sitting 84-87 in Mooresville.  A high-3/4 slot, with a short arm action, leading to a quick hand, with some effort.  Gathers on the backside at balance, with some coil.  Arm swing works behind the line into a whippy extension.  Change-up flashed as average, ranging 78-80 with arm-side run.  The curveball showed late tilt, but was inconsistent at times, touching 74.  Frame can add strength and the ceiling is still in the future.  Flashed solid fundamentals throughout the day.  From the outfield the arm strength measured 87mph, working with a short arm swing to his high-3/4 slot.  Good carry and accuracy.  Offensively, the righty has looseness and barrel awareness, while producing an exit velocity of 92mph.  Working with a vertical bat and tall setup, creates some leverage, while aggressively seeking extension and pull side power.  Good rhythm throughout the BP.  Ran the sixty in 7.31.

Interview with PBR:

PBR: What factors lead to your commitment to UNC Wilmington?

JH:  My specific academic interest that UNCW offers. The desire of going to a college that I absolutely love. The campus/athletic facilities. Knowledgeable, respectful, successful, great coaching staff. Positive, realistic, personal goal of starting as a freshman.

PBR:  You recently were on the campus... What stood out as you had the chance to tour UNCW?

JH:  The academic facilities offered what I desire to study. The overall college feel of the campus. The unbelievable facilities and success of their baseball team. The overall attendance size of UNCW.

PBR:  Academically, is there a particular interest or desired major, at this time?

JH:  Business

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?

JH:  Elon University, James Madison University, Presbyterian College, UNC Asheville, Gardener Webb University, NC State University, High Point University, Wake Forest, Duke University.

PBR:  Where there any coaches on the recruiting trail that you built a relationship with?

JH:  Coach Crocco, Coach Freidholm, Coach Johnston.

PBR:  Where did the coaches at UNCW see you?

JH:  Initially at Coastal Carolina showcase. Then I attended UNCW baseball recruiting camp this fall.

PBR:  When did the recruiting process begin to heat up for you -- was there a particular event or game?

JH:  As a rising junior, I started the recruiting process this past summer by attending the Vero Beach, Fla. "Unsigned" invite camp. In October I attended the Perfect game championship tourney in Jupiter, FL.  After that I only attended two college baseball camps(obtaining two offers) and scheduled more college camps this fall and next year. The experience of attending the UNCW camp was a no brainer for my family and myself so I wasted no time in committing to UNCW.

PBR:  What are your goals for this upcoming fall and spring?

JH:  Complete focus on academics, refining my baseball skills, getting bigger, stronger and faster. To be ready to start as a freshman at UNCW. To obtain my dream come true to play professional baseball at the highest level.

PBR:  Who are some of the coaches, or people, that have helped develop you on the baseball field?

JH:  Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. My father, mother and sister. Coach Pat Fisher, Coach Tom Love, Coach Michael Causey, Coach Philip Lofton, Coach Drew Belk, and Coach Crystal

PBR:  You attended a PBR event this fall... What are your thoughts on PBR NC, the event, and the coverage of HS baseball in NC?

JH:  I just want to personally thank Coach Hall. When I attended the PBR event, I was met with a sense of sincere caring, great communication and insight and knowledge of the recruiting process. I knew that as long as I performed well, I would be given a chance to get on the baseball map nationally.

PBR:  Any advice for the players in the 2018 & 2019 classes that are beginning their process?

JH:  Enjoy each and every moment you step on the field and play at nothing less than 110 percent. The opportunity to play baseball is a Privilege. Not a Right. It could be taken away from you in a split second.
