Texas Player Of The Year: RHP Alex Scherff

The 2017 high school season yielded many stellar individual performances across all corners of Texas. But one player stood above the rest:
Scherff was dominant this season, posting a 15-0 record with a 144 strikeouts in 85.1 IP. Scherff can run his fastball up to 99 mph, and pitches from 92-95 mph from a high-¾ slot with a short, quick arm stroke. The senior threw 2-No Hitters this year including one against defending state champion and cross-town rivals Grapevine. Scherff, a Texas A&M recruit, was recently drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 5th round of the MLB draft and signed to play professional baseball.
Scherff edged out a highly competitive field of candidates, selected by Texas Scouting Director Toby Bicknell and his team of area scouts who covered the season throughout the spring.
