Texas Limited Series: Day One Scout Notes
June 29, 2018
HOUSTON, TX - Kicking off the first PBR Texas Limited Series at The University of Houston, we had a 7 p.m. first pitch on Thursday between Action-Pettit and Hunter Pence-Calhoun.
+ The top of the order for Hunter Pence came out of the gates swinging. 2020 LHH/CF Tyler Douglas (John Cooper HS) hits leadoff for HP and has an aggressive approach. Starting from an open stance with relaxed hands, Douglas has loose-quick hands and a fluid swing. Although he did not have much to show for it, he put together competitive at-bats. 2020 2B Clayton Dean (Cypress Christian HS) smoked a double to left-centield, and squared up an 87 mph fastball on a hard ground ball to second base. Arkansas commit, 2020 SS Hunter Cramer (Oak Ridge HS) launched a towering fly ball double to left field for an RBI, walked, and laced a line drive right at the second baseman on an 88 mph fastball. 2020 LHH/OF Rhett McCaffety (Cypress Fair HS) drove in a run with an RBI ground ball to second base and hammered a triple to left-centerfield.
+ Uncommitted 2020 RHP Gray Harrison (Westlake HS) came out of the pen for Action, and made his presence known. At 5-foot-11, 140-pounds, Harrison has a long-limbed frame, and works from a high slot, with a loose arm swing. The fastball had good tilt as he located it to both sides of the plate at 86-88 (multiple 87-88’s) in the first inning, flashing one pitch at 90 in the second. Also throws a 12/6 curveball with developing shape at 72-74 mph. Pitched predominantly off his fastball, and dotted up the four-spot several times with two strikes.
+ Leading the way for the Action offense was 2020 SS/OF Sage Luther (Westlake HS) who squared up several offerings, including a single he laced to the right side, and a line drive to centerfield. 2020 OF Nicholas Arriola (Pflugerville HS) tripled to left-centerfield and flew out on the barrel to centerfield. 2020 C/1B Blake Miles (Round Rock HS) had a sharp single to right field, a hard ground ball to shortstop, and posted a 2.07 pop time between innings. 2020 C/3B Leo Lowin (Westlake HS) tripled to left-centerfield late in the game.
