Texas JUCO Week 1: Recap & Ranking

The first week of Junior College Baseball is officially in the Books for the year of 2019. 11 of the 35 teams had games this past weekend. Five of those teams made it through without any losses (#6 Tyler, #11 Panola, #13 Coastal Bend, #19 Angelina, and #22 Alvin).
#1 SAN JAC (3-1)
San Jac Traveled out west this weekend and took part in the CNS Boarder Battle which is hosted by national presence Southern Nevada. The Gators only blemish on the weekend game in the first game when they last to Arizona Western in walk-off fashion. They finished with three straight wins over powers like Southern Nevada, Central Arizona, and Gateway.

#2 MCLENNAN (0-2)
The Highlanders dropped the first two games of the season to #24 Angelina. However, they did bounce back on Monday, sweeping a double header (9-2, 7-5) from the same Roadrunners club to even their early season record to 2-2.
#6 TYLER (3-0)
Tyler started off the year with a sweep of (UR) Mountain View. In those three games, Tyler put up 27 runs while only allowing 7. Jacob Johnson had a hot weekend hitting .625 with 4 RBI, 2 Doubles, and 1 Walk. On the mound, Christian Grigs Started Game 1 going 4.0 innings with only 3 hits, 1 walk, and 10 strikeouts.
#24 ANGELINA (2-0)
The biggest surprise of the weekend comes from Angelina. As said above they took the first two games from #2 McLennan. Both games were close a 3-0 and a 6-5 extra inning game. Sean Bergeron was the highlight of the series he started game 1 and pitched the complete game shutout striking out 12 and only allowing 3 hits. The Roadrunners then dropped both games on Monday to the same Highlander club.
