Texas is known for producing high school arms and there is no shortage of them this year with six in the PBR Draft 100. On top of that, the Lone Star State has a group of position player with offense as their calling card. With RHP Shane Baz (Concordia Lutheran HS, TX) expected to go in the first round, Texas will have nine straight years of a high school prospect going in the first or first supplemental rounds.
4. Shane Baz, RHP, Concordia Lutheran HS, TX
A Texas Christian recruit, Baz has a strong frame at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds. He’s athletic and could get a chance to show is right-handed power if he made it to campus, but he’s likely a top 15 pick. He has an easy delivery, pumping fastballs at 92-94 mph and touching 96-97. He has done better to command his fastball this spring and gets heavy, riding action on the pitch. He mostly used a cutter/slider over the summer, which sits in the low 80s, and still features it, but also mixes in a sharp curveball. Baz takes a medium leg kick and long stride, staying tall in his delivery.
