The 2017 season is rapidly approaching. As we get closer to season, I begin my preview of each team and stories that will affect the overall results of the high school season, and who will ultimately end their season in Baum Stadium on the campus of the University of Arkansas. We move through the 7A West, we turn our focus the Rogers High School.
2016 saw the Mounties reach the 7A State Tournament with a solid mix of a roster. They will look to replace 2016 LHP/OF Harrison Hefley who was a dominant force in the lineup and a front line starter in conference play. Enough returns to keep them competitive in young conference race.
On the Mound
2019 RHP Mckaden Templeton burst onto the scene last spring pitching in the No.2 slot for Rogers, he showed maturity with his advanced pitchabiliy and composure winning big games as freshman. He had a good enough year to earn the start in the state tournament. He will return to lead the staff and they will look to add depth around him with consistent performers. Look for 2020 Jonathan Watson LHP to get a shot as a consistent contributor as he has shown advanced stuff for a young player.
Offensively
2017 OF Greyson Lee will be the engine that drives the offense from the top of the lineup. Lee is a versatile athlete with a combination of speed, with doubles powers. Look for the next wave if talent to begin showing its face in the offensive unit with a large group of young guys cracking the lineup.
Overall
A youth movement will be in full effect in Rogers this spring. There is not a shortage of talent, just a shortage of experience. I don’t think they are a threat to win the conference, I do believe they will challenge for a state tournament bid and ultimately get in.
